Is anyone else bothered by inline skaters crossing over into speed skating? It's bothering my delicate upstate NY snow savey sensibilities.

A lot of the winter olympic sports were developed as a way to keep from going insane in the endless winters of norther locals. So inline skaters from Houston and Miami seem like carpetbaggers to me. They haven't paid their dues.

That's why I think you should be required to name 26 kinds of snow and ice to be eligible for the winter olympics. (the only problem is that Bode Miller would still make the US team)

Here's 2:

1. Rime ice

2. Hoar frost

Don't we call that cross-training?

No, it's the equivalent of someone from Philadelphia arriving in Florida with a tan earned at a tanning salon.

See the problem?

Can't blame the tourists for wanting to fit in. (Careful, Max is arriving in Florida from Mass with a tan foundation earned in a tanning booth. Part of his marathon cross-training.)

What difference does it make where you are from? The point is to see who can travel the fastest on ice in a pair of skates.

I think the point is to celebrate life in the cold.

The races are just a diversion
