Master  2136    A Prairie Home |  Subject: Wedding gift ideasA good friend of mine is getting married this weekend. I would not be able to attend the ceremony, but I would like to set the newly wed a little something. Do you have any gift ideas? Or better yet, what would you have wanted to received instead of gift certificates or kitchen appliances? (Within reasonable limit of course. No condo, please.)  Here's a couple of ideas I have: 1. Bottle of Champagne with flutes 2. Bottle of Scotch with barware 3. Bathrobe set 4. Wine with stemware I am trying to come up with gifts that would require minimal action on their part. Master 1827 Tampa, Fl | Subject: RE: Wedding gift ideas Personally I would have personalized bathrobes individually wrapped with wide ribbon, one wine flute on each and bottle of champagne on ice. All waiting in there wedding night room (where ever it may be). The concierge usually will make some speciall arrangements. Now if I it were me, I would have links to race registrations on my wedding registry. hmmm, planning a surprise vacation (honeymoon like) sounds like a great idea this summer. Husbands take notes on these posts, we can have our wifes walking on clouds. (and bragging to all their friends) |

Brides (and grooms) get a lot of crap that they don't need or want so its best to stick with those 2 options. Even gift cards to places they didn't register (like Home Depot) are great. |

Someone I knew had been given a weekend stay at the Nantucket hotel where they spent their honeymoon so they could go back on their anniversary. I thought that was so great, so when my mom asked what I would want as a "bigger" gift I said a trip somewhere (not thinking it would ever happen) and a digital camera. One day we were all talking aorund the kitchen table and my brother gave us his gift - a digital camera. Then as we were looking at it he handed me an envelope and said, it should come in handy for this - and in the envelope was a brochure for a two night stay at the Lake Placid Lodge!! This was the best gift in the world!! To this day we can't decide which was our favorite hotel ever - Lake Placid Lodge or the Brooks Lake Lodge in Wyoming where we spent a week of our honeymoon. I know this is a way expensive gift which is why I like the idea of calling the honeymoon place ahead of time and setting up something fun for the couple to do. It's still thoughtful, personal and not front he registry. |

If you get glasswear, make sure it's either something on their registry or something you absolutely know they will like. As ungrateful as it sounds, one of the biggest pains of getting married is returning or disposing of all the random crap people give you. Bill |

A collection of games (board games, trivial pursuit, etc.) For a cousin who did things with the youth group, a whole bunch of yard games, large cooler, and a couple of lawn chairs and beach towels. (They were very young and still in college, so we were looking for things to do for cheap entertainment.) Portable grill What kind of things does your good friend really like to do? Just a thought, but why not buy a present and give it to them in person after they get back from the honeymoon? That would probably mean more to them than sending a gift (especially since they might not even open the gifts until they return). |

The number one complaint/comment was people getting them random gifts. But I guess if you know them really well, you will know what they do/don't like. Some of the best gifts I've gone in on (not on a registry) were a bar-b-que grill, poker table and Xbox. Very groom-oriented, but both bride and groom thought those gifts were creative and fun... and the get used a LOT. |

Extreme Veteran 328 Texas | Subject: RE: Wedding gift ideas The best gift we got that we didn't register for was a high end set of knives. 3 1/2 years later every time we use the knives we say gosh what a great gift that was. If a knif set is to much $ a good set of steak knives would be good. Out of the items you listed I like #3 bathrobe set. Some people are very particular about glass ware. Oh one other suggestion, I believe you said they are staying at home after the wedding, maybe a gift basket full of fun stuff, some snak foods, some games, some candles, etc. |
