Overcast
Total Time = 1h 17m 29s
Overall Rank = 132/282
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

4:30am wakeup, coffee, cereal, bananna, breakfast cookie. Loaded my stuff in the car, woke up my wife, and took off. Got to the site, got my body marked, laid out my transition area, and then spent 25 minutes stretching.
Event warmup:

Basic stretching, a little running, and lots of bathroom stops.
Swim
  • 14m 24s
  • 3000 meters
  • 29s / 100 meters
Comments:

No swim, due to really poor water conditions, and too much contamination!
Transition 1
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

I thought my T1 was good, but the winner of my age group, and several other of my age-groupers did T1 in like 30 seconds or less! Unbelievable.
What would you do differently?:

I'm not quite sure.
Bike
  • 37m 53s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.01 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt really good while on the bike. I really felt strong, especially using the aerobars, gear changes, and hill climbing. Looking at my overall placement especially in the male division, it's really disheartening.
What would you do differently?:

Not quite sure. I was pushing almost as hard as I could.
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

Again, I felt like I sped through this, but was rewarded with almost a minute of transition. Unbelievable.
What would you do differently?:

I probably needed to get to the site much earlier, and set my transition area up closer to the entrance/exit of the transition area. I was way at the back, and this slowed me down, probably by 30 seconds each transition.
Run
  • 23m 11s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

This was one of my strongest finishes ever. I felt really "overhydrated" at the beginning, and I almost heaved. but, I pushed through it. The last 1 mile I had a fellow age grouper drafting me, and then the last 1/4 mile he sped up to pass. It was a sprint to the finish, and he outlasted me by 1 second. Pretty exciting.
What would you do differently?:

I think that I need to take my shirt/jersey off during the run, but it's difficult to do with a sweaty bike jersey on. Also, I would suck down a gel packet with about 1-2 miles to go on the bike. I almost bonked on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Almost pass out. Pour lots of water on myself. Drink some accelerade, eat a banana, and a stinger gold packet.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough fuel to push through at the end. Also, I had not practiced for a Duathlon before, and the run-bike was difficult to pace.

Event comments:

I didn't find out the swim was cancelled until packet pick up the day before the race. It was a big bummer dude. I really wanted to work on my open water swimming, but I didn't get to.

Sorry your swim was cancelled.  I had that happen once and you really aren't fully prepared to run extra for a duathlon.  Good show, though!  What is planned next?

Good Race---Sorry about the cancelled swim. Swimming is my favorite sport so I would be highly disappointed having to run twice(least favorite of the three).

Yeah it was a bummer. In some ways though it made my nerves rest easier. It was going to be my first real open water swim. So on one hand I was excited. ON the other I was nervous as hell.
