By me that is.  I was looking at old posts on wetsuits and autumn had the best idea a while back about saving up for a wetsuit.  Starting next month I'm paying myself $1 for each 500m of swimming, 5k of running, 30min of biking and 30min of other activity... That way my spending is controled and I'm only putting a little a way each month into this fund for whatever tri gear I need.  If I want a set of wheels I need to get my a$$ on the bike and earn those puppies!  Thanks for the awesome idea autumn!

Thats a pretty good idea.   I guess i would probably put away about $14-15 each week.  Depends on the other activity.  That could get it going.  Wait you need to have a job to put money away.

I actually did that this past fall to finance my Wetsuit this spring. It does work pretty well. I paid $2.00 per workout regardless of time distance, etc. That with some x-mas money got me my wetsuit, and I still have money left over for my races. I still put money in my little piggy bank and hope that in a couple of years, I will be buying the tri-bike I'd like. I figure 4 bikes is better than 3 and my wife can't complain if I just save slowly.

Great idea... Think about how much you really wish to save though and pay yourself accordingly. At $1/workout you will need a lot of time to save the cash. ANd basing it on distance doesn't take into account the rest weeks or increases to new levels. That is why I decided on a flat rate. I figured I had about 6 months and would train about 20x/month so I could save $40/month. Then figured that would be about $240 plus x-mas money I'd have my wetsuit.

awesome.

now swim bike run! swim bike run! swim bike run!

note that i actually broke down and bought one BEFORE I had all my money saved up. i was assuming i had to save $200+ for a wetsuit. found one at at 60% off (so, $100) at rei. i'd saved about half that already, so i bought it. still, it was better paying w/ money i had 'earned' and scraping together the rest than it would have been paying $200+ and putting it on a credit card.
