Subject: Kudos to Prezzie Bush!

You know there is major weirdness going on when the POTUS is lecturing his party faithful about being humane.

Yay to Bush for getting it right! He's on the right side of this debate and I'm not going to speculate as to his motives.  Maybe he just got it right for a change - that's a very real possibility!

A day before his departure, Bush told CNN en Espanol that the current immigration system "is inhumane, as far as I'm concerned, and it needs to be reformed."

He urged Congress to support a temporary guest-worker program.

"I have called upon both the House and the Senate to pass a comprehensive bill. And a comprehensive bill means to make sure you include a guest-worker program," he said.

He said his plan "includes not only border security, but also a temporary worker plan that recognizes there are hardworking people here doing jobs Americans won't do, and they ought to be here in such a way so they don't have to hide in the shadows of our society."

Eh...probably just an accident. Statistical outlier. But whatever, yeah, good stuff.

Holy alternate universe, Batman! It gets weirder! Kennedy agrees with Bush and the AFL-CIO is aligning itself with people like Frist!

"The president likes the idea of a comprehensive approach," (Senator Ted) Kennedy said. "Although we still have not worked out the details of any kind of a joint position with the administration, I'm very hopeful that before the end of this debate, that we can all come together."

Further blurring the battle lines on the issue, the guest-worker proposal drew criticism Tuesday from the AFL-CIO, which praised other aspects of the committee's bill.

"Guest-workers programs are a bad idea and harm all workers," said a written statement from the labor group's president, John Sweeney. "They cast workers into a perennial second-class status, and unfairly put their fates into their employers' hands, creating a situation ripe for exploitation."

Earth to AFL-CIO: They are already being exploited. Helllooooooooooo?

I am getting scared! If President Bush and Senator Ted Kennedy are agreeing on something then I need to get started on my "what/who I want to do before I die list"

It's the end of the World as we know it and I feel fine.

woo-woo I made "Veteran" just in time.

Well, there *is* an eclipse.  Signs of the apocolypse?

And yes, as with the DPW port deal, I agree with the pres. on this one.

You may be doing your Oly in flaming seas, the bike ride will be totally uphill as the ground around you is pushing to the skys, and you run will be across a field of molten lava with toxic fumes spewing forth. (you might want to wear two pairs of socks)

Pshaw. I ran a marathon. I'm a triathlete. I'm not skeerd!

Besides, I'm Buddhist. All that stuff is to punish you Christian sinners.

Next year will be the first Buddhist Olympic Triathlon! Except for the part where the Buddhist monk will chastise me for my fitness cravings...

and I am Catholic so I have the whole guilt thing about causing the whole mess.

So how does the Monk chastising thing work? Will they make you swim laps or make you eat donuts and get fat while watching someone else do laps?

Where is the Buddist Tri being held?

Hey, thanks for knocking out my competition! That's one way to become FOPer.

So how does the Monk chastising thing work?

Nah.  just have to sit still and meditate on why I resist the impermanent nature of my body.

Where is the Buddist Tri being held?

Well, once St. Anthony's Oly goes down in flames that opens up that venue for a Buddhist Tri! Or... just a non-Saint blessed tri.

I had a snappy come back (i think) but it took me sooo looong to find out what FOPer meant that I forgot.

Maybe it had something to do with Nuns. They chastised me with metal edged wooden rulers across the nose when I didn't practice cornet and made up stupid excuses.

I am thinking that meditation sounds like a piece of cake. (can you drink beer and meditate?) I could be converted if the rules work in my favor.

Well that all depends on you. Can you handle looking yourself in the mirror, metaphorically speaking, for extended periods of time? Can you handle YOUR truths?

I never saw anything in the rule book against beer, btw.

Hey, I just realized - Golfinggods is on the same side of this issue as the AFL-CIO! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

As long as the mirror is only metaphysical I am ok with it. I am very comfortable in my skin. Other peoples skin doesn't seem to fit me so well.

Good thing about the beer. That would be a deal breaker for sure.

How does one quote Christianity? It's such a huge amalgam of creeds. In any event, she did not quote the bible.

Ok, what the good Senator from New York said was:

“It is certainly not in keeping with my understanding of the Scriptures. This bill would literally criminalize the Good Samaritan and probably even Jesus Himself.”

Context: a separate provision in the bill that would subject to as much as five years in prison anyone who "assists, encourages, directs, or induces a person to reside in or remain in the United States, or to attempt to reside in or remain in the United States, knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such person is an alien who lacks lawful authority to reside in or remain in the United States."

Thanks, Mike. That's really nice of you to say/write. When the rapture comes, I'll toss ya a saffron robe, ok? Unless, of course, you expect to make the first cut.

When that happens I will take whatever help anyone is willing to give me. First cut? Not likely. Sorted past, yes. Tri to do good most of the time, not always sucessful.

I am not sure I look good in orange though (I had to look up saffron). I had a burnt orange plaid couch once, that is the image in my head right now. As long as the robe is a natural fiber I'll be ok. (I sweat like a hog in polyester)
