Coach 9167 Stairway to Seven | Subject: How much did your accountant charge you? I got a big refund on my taxes, but my accountant charged me twice what he quoted in December, AND charged me for the initial meeting we had. Did I mention that I found multiple mistakes he made and my federal taxes had to be done twice, and my state taxes three times??? He did give me a $50 discount, but I'm still a little aggrevated! We never considered it in bad taste for a client to ask to see our diplomas/licenses/certificates. You should ask to see his...you really need to know if it was signed by Daffy Duck. That many errors seems odd in this computerized world. May I ask how many schedules your return contained? |

Master 1867 The real USC, in the ghetto of LA | Subject: RE: How much did your accountant charge you? Zilla - 2006-04-25 7:17 PM My accountant charged me a mere $2,500 to tell me that I owed $35,000. Now THAT'S takin' it in the pooper from Uncle Sam! (I'll be fair to her... it was for the personal, sub-s corp. and the 4 seperate LLC's used for real estate investments)
in my opinion a good tax accountant would also set you up with a strategy for this next year, how you can estimate and minimize your liability.... did she do that? did you ask? |

That many errors seems odd in this computerized world. May I ask how many schedules your return contained? Not many is all I can say without looking at it. The errors had do do with a capital loss from a stock that had split, changed names, then I sold 9/10ths of it in 2004 and the remainder in 2005; as well as working in 2 different states with 3 different localities. But that's the whole reason I hired him in the first place! The 403b and adjusted ROth contribution stuff actually went OK. He came highly recommended from 2 different sources, one a lawyer, and the other a retired CEO. I should have listened to my first instinct at the sit-down meeting that he charged me $45 for. Wierd, I thought I was interviewing him, but really I was paying thru my butt. I don't even know what purpose that meeting served now, except as a warning I didn't pay attention to. We just didn't "gel", and I continued to go with him since he was so highly recommended. I may try doing my own next year, this was teh first year I ever used an accountant, the past 4 years, I've used turbotax. |

Coach 9167 Stairway to Seven | Subject: RE: How much did your accountant charge you? I think turbotax can ask more intelligent questions than my accountant did. At least when turbotax asks me to calculate the basis for my capital gains/losses, I can't get mad at it. When the accountant can't figure it out on his own and I have to do it anyway...that's what really got me riled up...I wanted to avoid all that aggrevation, and I ended up have to dig through files, do math and give him the numbers anyway (even though he had both the original sales & purchase information). |

Then again, I had to put up with him for 20 years of my life, the least he can do for me is prepare my taxes. After all, I never did tell our parents about that party in high school (which I still use as leverage!) |
