Expert 3145 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: Anyone want to guess my half mary time? Seems like the popular game right now. Logs are pretty up to date. Just recently did a LT test and started tracking HR during runs which has led to the discovery that a mid Z2 (~145) long run puts me around an 8:15-8:20 pace. What I haven't been doing is following any specific HM training plan, just more of a Barry P 3:2:1 with one or two speed work days the past 5-6 weeks. Vegas RnR so it will be quite flat all the way. |

You and I seem to be very close in run fitness, even with the zone and pace you mentioned and also similar results in your LT test. I can't tell how much time you put in close to LT, but I'm guessing more would have been a little better, but you do have good amount of mileage to go on. I'll give you 1:33:10! |

Good info and nice to see I'm not (hopefully) too far off on personal expectations. |

Not going against ya, just wondering why so conservative? He had a 13miler training run at 1:44...I know it could have been he ran harder than usual...his LT is close to mine and he has more recent mileage than I do. I ran a HM just under my LT...maybe 20sec/mi slower and finished in 1:32:10. Again, just wondering...I'd like to sharpen my skill at the guessing game |

The trail run was a fiasco, first trail race ever and the elevation (or more my going too hard on hills) killed me. The last few months have just been about volume and this HM kind of came along and I thought "why not?". I'm thinking about just going off around 7:00-7:05 and seeing what happens. If I blow it up, I blow it up |

If I blow it up, I blow it up Personally, I agree with your general approach (race it and see what happens, without getting wrapped around the axle about the outcome), but me being me, I think I'd go by feel/RPE or heart rate than pace at this point. If you go by HR, be aware that it may be higher than normal because of the adrenaline. If you are comfortable racing by pace, then I'd shoot for something closer to 7:05 - 7:15 pace to start, and adjust after the halfway point based on how you feel (assuming the wheels are still on). |
