Total Time = 1h 35m 9s
Overall Rank = 239/247
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 7/7
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5 am. Ate normal oatmeal & coffee breakfast at home - Left for the race site about 6 am.
Event warmup:

Brisk walk and light jog then some stretching.
Run
  • 22m 39s
  • 2 miles
  • 11m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Even though I warmed up sufficiently, I had a tough time getting into a groove. Was huffing and puffing pretty good the 1st mile, but settled down at the turnaround. Going downhill helped!
What would you do differently?:

Be more fit.
Transition 1
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

I was surprise to see a T1 time this fast. I fumbled around changing shoes for what seemed like 5 minutes. The only things I had to do was put on a helmet, change shoes, and grab my bike.
What would you do differently?:

Right now, I don't know what I'd do differently - down the road, perhaps leave shoes on bike and learn how to get in them while moving. I don't see this happening in the near future.
Bike
  • 43m 41s
  • 10.4 miles
  • 14.28 mile/hr
Comments:

Walked the bike up the hill at the beginning just like suggested at pre-race meeting. Mounted the bike at the top of the hill and promptly fell over! Not a great way to start the bike leg..... Got out on the road and settled into a pretty comfortable ride. There were a couple of decent hills, that I was happy about the way I made my way up. Maintained a decent cadence and kept in the midrange the entire race. Last half of the race had traffic on the course, which was a little unnerving for me.
What would you do differently?:

I need more experience on the bike & more time riding around others.
Transition 2
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

Once again, fumbled with the shoes.
Run
  • 24m 41s
  • 2 miles
  • 12m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Pretty tired at this point. Walked out of Transition and up the hill. Alternated running and walking for the first mile. I would pick a spot down the road and run to it, then pick another spot and walk to it. Walked through the turnaround to get a drink and ran the entire last mile back to the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Be more fit.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a little. Got some post-race food and stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

#1. Lack of training
#2. Lack of experience
#3. Lack of focus

Event comments:

I didn't really train much for this race, so I shouldn't be so negative. This race was a perfect season opener for me and did just what it was supposed to - Get me in the mindframe to train hard and improve my skills.

Considering you "didn't really train much for this race," it looks like a good season opener to me--well, maybe without the bike fall.

Nice T1 time... That's how ya' shave some off the overall time.

Keep up the good work.
