Since there was general agreement on having a get together at my place before the race, here's what I'm offering up:
- Show up at my house at about 6 p.m. on Sunday. Bike check-in for the Olympic race is from 2-5 and Sprint check-in is from 4-7. That should leave everyone plenty of time. Remember, bike check in is mandatory. This means there is NO EXCUSE for not showing up! You can't claim that you have to adjust your derailleur or lube your chain.
- My house address is:
5718 Penny Creek Dr
Austin, TX
- Google Map link:

The marker on the map is not accurate, however. My house is down at the end of the cul de sac. The mailbox and curb are both marked with the number.
- I'm about 12 miles from the race site and it's pretty much all highway. It won't take you more than 15 minutes.
- I've got a big back deck and back yard that overlooks the Bull Creek green belt. We've got great sunset views and the deer will be wandering through shortly after sunset.
- I'll have a case or so of beer, probably some wine, and plenty of water and Gatorade
- I'm trying to decide what to do for food. We've got the deck and the grill, so we could cook up some MEAT and have typical cookout stuff: pasta salad, beans, chips, dip. Then again, it's the night before a race, so I could make up a big batch of spaghetti, some fresh bread, salad, etc. and we have a nice carb load meal at about 7 or so. Comments and thoughts?
- I figure things will break up around 9 so people have time to get back to wherever they're staying, do a last minute equipment check, and get some sleep. This is just a guess and everyone is welcome to stay as long as they want until I kick you out.
- Let me know if you're bothered by dogs. I have a Golden Retriever who will be a psycho when people first get there. I don't think she would even know how to bite someone and she doesn't jump up, but she will be racing around and smacking you with her tail and if you put a hand within reach, she'll slobber it pretty good. Some people get freaked out, though and if that's the case, I'll be sure she stays inside.
If people insist on bringing something along, we can figure out what after we get comments on food. I'm NOT requesting or requiring it. I offered my hosipitality, so I intend to provide it.
I'm really looking forward to this race. The Texas Tri was great and we only had about 10 people there. For CapTex, we'll have a nice big BT contigent, many of us will be sporting our gear, we'll have a nice friendly get together, the race itself is a lot of fun with great crowd support, and I'm looking to better my Olympic distance PR. Woohoo.
Please RSVP to the thread if you're going to make it so I know how much food we'll need.
