Champion 5312![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Calgary | Subject: best camera/video camera for recording your race experienceNever been much for pictures but I got a big year planned and kind of thinking on taking some of those live on the race course videos that I sometimes see people do. I am not really completely sold on the idea, seems a bit vain....but I am looking into it. Can anyone recommend any specific type of video camera for this purpose. I imagine it to be small and somehow attach to a belt. |

I just bought one a few weeks ago for a CO trip. It's insane how great the quality is and there's a ton of ways to mount it to you or your bike. I've even got a monopod so I can film me with a chase camera... lol Here's some video I took of us snowmobiling last weekend. It was attached to the top of my helmet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxvPMkc2UKA It's 1080p |

The new GoPro Hero2 has awesome quality, is waterproof, and has several "Modes" which come in handy. They also have a chest mount that provides a sweet view while on the bike.. Is it Vain? Maybe, but who really cares?? |

I always thought it was a little one offish but I have watched some peoples race reports and found them to be enjoyable. |

I think it's awesome, Watch the beginning of the olympics and see how many athletes are recording while they march in. (I know, they don't do it in competition, but we're not talking abut the olympics here). The talking to himself part? That depends on what he's saying.. |

Beginning of Olympics...videotaping...I can understand that. Running with a video camera and talking to yourself...I completely don't get it. We triathletes are a sorry enough lot wanting to write race reports and insisting our friends hear about our recent race results. I just don't think we need to take it to the next level and start videoing our races. I get videoing a snow board run. I get videoing a mountain bike ride. I see nothing interesting whatsoever in videoing miles of a road on a bike or on foot. As the OP said - "seems a bit vain".

To each his own, I guess. I personally really enjoy viewing these video "race reports". It gives you a much better feel for the event. I watched a couple of Kona athlete videos that I found especially fun to watch. I'll probably never do that event, so it was cool to "come along for the ride", so to speak. |

I've had a few people make fun of me, but generally after they're done making fun of me they ask me for a copy of the video. I get to take my camera to Masters swim in the morning because one of them saw me videoing myself swimming a couple weeks ago and now they all want me to video them. lol |

Veteran 158![]() ![]() ![]() Missouri | Subject: RE: best camera/video camera for recording your race experienceI only record when I am on my MTB. Otherwise like someone else mentioned, recording miles and miles of road isn't that fun or interesting. Hell, even recording some dirt/off-road trails gets a little boring at times: http://youtu.be/9tgxCIbZwa4 (low quality) but I hook up my Nikon Coolpix digital camera when I'm MTBiking with a camera mount that was pretty much $free.99 just had to find a 1/4"-20 threaded bolt or buy one at lowes for like 20 cents to replace and shove threw that hole. I'm sure if you have a camera that can record for a long duration you'll be good to go with this set up. ![]() |
