Swim
Comments: Open water can be terrifying. As it turns out it was for me. After the first 200m's everything seemed fine until I realized I had swum out into a giant lake with nothing but a thin layer of rubber and some googles as protection. I was disappointed but undetered. After I got my heart rate back under control, I focused on just making it to shore or finding a kayak:) What would you do differently?: Practice open water swimming before a race-it is crucial!! Transition 1
Comments: Eventually had to pull over a mile into the bike ride because I couldn't get my feet all the way in but overall I felt very much like a triathlete! What would you do differently?: Practice slipping my feet into the shoes after a workout. It is much harder to do when you are tired. Bike
Transition 2
Comments: T2 felt great. I passed 19 people on the bike and was begininng to have delusions of inborn natural talent that no gym coach had ever noticed. The run would set me straight! Run
Comments: My legs were spent. After the panic attack in the water and my confusion on the bike (where did that hill come from?) I was spent. I felt great because my first traithlon was almost done and I had passed so many people on the bike but then one by one they all passed me back on the run. What would you do differently?: Increase quality of run training. I am slow...very slow. Post race
Warm down: Bagels, blueberry muffin and a Naked fruit juice. Event comments: Rage in the Dage is my first triathlon ever. It has been a 8 month oddesy involving learning to swim, losing almost 40 pounds and proving that with hard work anything can be done. As long as I crossed the finish line it would've been a great race. Along the way I have found a new hobby/sport/joy/release and it is a fun and engaging activity that I look forard to introducing to my son and daughter when they are old enough.
