Heading over this Friday with a friend to ride at least 40 miles of the bike course if anyone else wants to join.  Probably ride around 17-18 mph on this trip for anyone interested.

Shelly,

Sorry  to miss the opportunity....hope you have a great time.  It looks like this year's swim will be without a wetsuitCry

Alan,

I am anticipating a warm water temp due to the warm spring we are having.  I am still packing my wet suit though.

Thanks, JK.  I have tried to find a place that is posting water temp.  The website I was using last year has not been updated since July 2011.

I bet Benji has a shady spot he uses to get a cool reading race morning!!Smile

They list 8 hours as the time limit.  I know people who have gone longer than the "official" time limit on other Set Up races, so I know they give some variance on that.  The 8 hours is probably from the last wave, so you could have even longer if you start in an early wave.  I would say anything under 9 hours and you should be good to go.

Here is what they have on the site about the cut-off times for the event.

Cut-Off Time:

All participants must complete the race in under 8 hours. The swim must be completed in no more than 1 hour - 30 minutes from the time the participant started. The bike must be completed in no more than 5 hours from the time the participant started. Participants must finish the entire race under 8 hours from the start of the event.

I find it interesting that for the swim and bike they say they have to be finished in a specific time from when the "participant" started but for the entire event, participants have 8 hours from the "start" of the event.

Regardless, I am really looking forward to this.  This will be my first HIM.

Hope everyone's training is coming along well.  Work has definitely been hampering some of mine but still hitting my key workouts.  Was able to get in a 52 mile ride this last week and a 12 mile run so hoping to keep the momentum going!

Previewed the bike course today, pleasantly surprised.  From some of what I had heard the bike course surface was very rough in places but I did not experience much of that today, maybe the last 6 miles or so.  Maybe it is all relative anyway as I live in Brunswick County and the surfaces were very comparable.  Seems like the course will be quick and the first shot down 41 and then down 210 were very quick and had really good road surfaces.  Ready to start tapering now over the next two weeks and have a good first Half.  Hope everyone's training is coming along well!

Richard,

Thanks for the road report....I raced in the 2010 HIM and it seemed like there was a section in the first 10 miles or so that was littered with water bottles due to the roughness.   In any case, I hope everyone ensures their cages are snug.  Enjoy your taper.....

I did the race a few years ago, and then the rough patch was the out and back on Over Lyons Rd.

Maybe the cool weather will keep the Lake temp down...  We can hope!
