So my wife and I are going to be doing a TNT event later this year.  She's done one in the past but this is my first.

We are looking for creative ways of doing fund raising rather than just asking for money.

Here is a couple that we've come up with just off the top of our heads.

1) She's a photographer, so for the month of March her photo shoots go up $25.  People know in advance why the price is higher for the month.

2) Keeping with photography she's doing a couple tri's in the area, all proceeds from the pictures purchased after the event go towards the total.

3) Very simple, low key 5k run.  All proceeds go to the total.

4) Get people to sponsor you for the month.  They donate $.10 for every mile you run.  So the end of the month they owe $x.  Or whatever values they want to do.

Help! Any ideas COJ?

Perhaps the person w/ the origin of the idea is still around.. but my favorite I saw posted here on COJ (or somewhere here in BT) would be the Flamingo's in Yards.

Take a dozen or so Flamingo's and place them in a couple of yards of friend/acquaintance's. (or even the yards of some "well-to-do's" whom may be known of as good hearted/fun spirited people) Leave a note that they can/will be removed for a small fee, and for a slightly larger fee you will place them in their yard of choice (I think perhaps the original poster may have placed directions on the back of each bird on how to have them removed).  You end up with a couple of groups of Flamingo's floating around town.
I would think that if you live in a relatively small town word will get around fast and this could/would be quite fun.

I guess alot depends on how much you need to raise and how much time you have to do it. I would put together a flyer and pass it out to everyone at your work and your wifes work, asking for sponsos or donations. Give same to friends and family to bring to work. You could create a website to track your progress and blog about training and people can pay you through that.

Ha! I like the flamingo idea and think that would be a lot of fun.

As for the website with information on how much we are doing and a letter that is pretty much a given in any sort of fund raising.  That's why we are trying to come up with something different to do.

A couple of my girlfriends are TNT fundraising and they've coordinated with many local bar/restaurant owners to have sponsored nights. The owners agree that if their nightly sales reach a certain amount (more than the usual or average), they will donate a certain percentage to their fundraising efforts.

The event I went to was at a sports bar, so they had a "cancer sucks" shot that was on special. We had lots of them Innocent. They also had t-shirts printed up to support their alma matter, who happened to be playing a basketball game that night (captive audience who is interested in the shirt - they sold TONS). They were $10 and they had a credit card machine set up. Dressed up in crazy purple glitter feathery outfits with wigs and worked every table all night for raffle money and up-selling shots and t-shirts.

They are doing one of these events about every 2 weeks at different venues. I think it's working out well for them.

As a side note on photography, I paid $50 or so for a fundraiser to have my pet's portrait taken. Yes a pet portrait. They had a few different scenes set up, took time to get good photos, and let you pick one right there. For the $50 you got the sitting fee and I think a 5x7 and some wallet photos, which were mailed a few weeks later. It was both a fundraiser and a good marketing opportunity for the photographer.

I did the first San Diego RNR marathon in '98 for TNT.

I actually did a silent auction for donated goods.  Then I invited everyone I knew (and then some) to the event.  With all the social media now I'm sure inviting and getting the word out would be even easier than back then.  I raised EVERYTHING in one night.  For the out of town people and family I took regular donations.

I had gift certificates to restaurants, tickets to the Hawks & Braves games, a trip to Callaway Gardens, karate lessons, spas, jewlery, wine bottles, you name it!  It took some time collecting everything but it was pretty easy to get the donations.

This way my friends felt like the were getting something for their money, and in this economy that makes a big difference.

I had a book with all the local donations and gave that to everyone... and also had a big banner so they got credit.  If I were doing this today, I would probably get a domain and create a website too.  They'll want to know how they get "credit" in the community for donating...

PM me if you have any questions.

Andi

Thanks for the ideas Andi, I appreciate it.

Does anyone know those 'things' you can buy to donate money to a cause and they put your name on it then hang it some where, usually in a window. What are those 'things' called?

Everyone uses them for stuff but I have NO clue what they are called.
