Elite 6387 | Subject: Trainer Road Spring Challenge For those of us that like using Trainer Road as a training tool, it's time to throw down. I'm pretty sure snow is still in my future here in Colorado and I still want to do structured trainer sessions even as I start getting out more. Still plenty of time to put in some hard work for Summer race season!!! Plus there are some exciting new additions coming to TR that will be a lot of fun. So let's get a group going. Disclaimer: Please forgive me, I have not done this before. I read the FAQ, and some stuff applies and some stuff doesn't. I may need some help... onward. So this is going to run April, May, and June. We will go by monthly winners, and overall Spring winner. The Prize is the best prize of all time... BRAGGING RIGHTS!!! We will be going for highest TSS totals for the month, and for the Challenge. Any rides you do on TR April, May, June will count. So whether you like hard and fast, or long and slow, you are covered! Also, we will be going for highest Watts/Kg % change. So if you have started to panic that race season is right around the corner, and you have barely emerged from hibernation... well its' time TO GET TO WORK!!! Challenge Starts April 1st. This week everyone will need to do a test on TR to establish base line w/kg. I realize there are several ways to do that, but we need to do the Trainer Road tests so we can all see. Follow up tests will be the last week of the month, but no later than the last day of the month. We all have schedules to meet and need some flexibility, but we have to have a cut off... last day of the month. This will be the honor system. Try not to sad bag too much. Test on or near the same day as much as possible to not have a 5 week total. And try hard to get accurate weigh ins because w/kg is based on what ever number you throw into the calculator. The only thing we need is an excel spread sheet to keep track of standings. I can stumble through, but someone that is good at that would be a big help. In the FAQ there is instruction on where to post it on Google docs for all of us to access. So post up who is in. If it is a small group no problem. If it turns into a large group, then maybe we will consider doing teams drawn at random. So get your name in so we can figure that out before 1st of April. Enjoy peeps. Let's have some fun!!! |

Elite 6387 | Subject: RE: Trainer Road Spring Challenge For those of you that do not know what Trainer Road is, it is an awesome training tool for indoor bike trainers. Anyone that has spent an hour on a bike trainer knows how boring that can be... enter Trainer Road. They have a whole host of workouts and programs to follow. You can stream Sufferfest videos so you can track your Suffering in TR. You can even stream Netflix and other video if that is your thing. All you need is a computer and an account. There is a small member ship fee every month, but it is so worth it. What is special is you can turn any trainer into a power meter and all you need is a ANT+ speed sensor and ANT+ USB stick. Hook it up and train with power like the pros. For more information go to the web site and check it out. Everything you need to know is there and those of us that use it will be happy to answer any questions I'm sure. |

I'm just getting into intermediate base II but I can do a test next week. I'm also on a diet so this is a good challenge for me! I'm shooting for 3 rides a week. Hopefully next month I can bump it up. |

Sorry you're full of snot... Bet that makes for fun rides. Is there a way we can upload files to trainerroad? And when can we send workouts to our watches (will we be able to upload that file to trainerroad)? I should add that I haven't even bothered to look into power cheetah or tko+ (whatever) or any of the programs that are supposed to be good for analyzing the power data... Trainerroad has just been too good to me. Edited by ironultrared 2012-03-28 6:34 PM |

Member 445 | Subject: RE: Trainer Road Spring Challenge I'd like to play but seeing as I will be movin out of the country and all my belongings are being packed up in May and I won't have access to anything until September, I'd only be able to play for the month of April. Sounds like a fun project and I hope everyone has a great time training! |

April fools day Hey Nate... the 8 minute test is the one we shoud be using to find CP and W/Kg right??? I was using Jorge's plan and his spread sheet to get my CP. I did a 20 min test and a 5 min test. I would use the test work out on TR to go by.... my CP was close to what TR said.... Anyway... what is the proper test protocol to use on TR for threshold and therefore w/kg??? |

Member 194 | Subject: RE: Trainer Road Spring Challenge We can kinda pick our poison with either the 20 minute test or the 8 minute test. They both do pretty well at predicting FTP. The 8 minute test will favor those with a high anarobic work capacity (AWC). The 20 minute will favor those with a bit more endurance. I did both of them a few months ago and my results came out 1 watt different. So it's really up to us. If you guys like the 8 minute test then that's good. |

Elite 6387 | Subject: RE: Trainer Road Spring Challenge I'm Powerman on TR too. In that case... I'll do the 20. The 20 hurts, but so far I have wanted to puke for a good 30 minutes after my 5 minute tests. It Really trips me out how bad those hurt. I have been planning on commuting to work for training... it's high intensity TT type stuff... but now I'm stoked to bring the pain on the trainer a bit more. I have a possible century coming up 1st of June... I want to work hard at my VO2 and threshold on the trainer and get out for LSD stuff. A century June, July, and August with a total of 24K ft of elevation is plenty of motivation to start piling on the miles. Plus I have a personal goal of 10 lbs in 10 weeks so I'm really excited to get to work and see my results. |

Elite 6387 | Subject: RE: Trainer Road Spring Challenge My thoughts were the later you do the test, the lower your improvement will be. Less time form start to finish. So I think it is more of an unfair advantage if you stretch tests out further to have more time in between. Month to month will be shorter, but there is still the quarter... and this really only applies to the highest % change in W/Kg. Highest total TSS does not matter... that is only date to date from 1st of the month and three month total. I'm going down to do my test right now. Since there is not a ton of people, I think we can just post up our totals here in the thread unless someone wants to do a spread sheet. Edited by powerman 2012-04-01 11:16 AM |

Elite 6387 | Subject: RE: Trainer Road Spring Challenge OK... It's on FTP of 219 at 170.4 lbs gives my a FTP/Kg of 2.83 W/Kg
I'm trying to drop 10 pounds so hopefully that helps, and my plan of attack is going to be Jorge's FTP plan on TR. It will be a good focus for 7 weeks then probably move to Int 1 or 2 plan from there. I already have 78 TSS points |

Member 194 | Subject: RE: Trainer Road Spring Challenge Nice job! I am still on anti-biotics and won't test for a few days. The earlier you can get your test in the better. That will allow you to get the biggest gains (as you have the most time). |

Veteran 523 East Greenbush | Subject: RE: Trainer Road Spring Challenge Testing a week from Mon. Interested to see how much or if I have improved since my 1st test. My 1st test my FTP was 154. About week 4 was able to bump my FTP up to 170 because the workouts just seemed to darn easy. Dont think I tested right the 1st time. Anywho... Ill let ya know in a week. Mean while do we post our workouts until then or do we have to wait to test to start posting? |
