Swim
Comments: It was a cold, cold swim. Even with earplugs and a neoprene cap I was very dizzy. When I got out of the water I could hardly stand. But it was a solid swim for me and I just plugged along at a steady pace What would you do differently?: Maybe a little better drafting...or enter a race later in the year so its warmer. Transition 1
Comments: Very difficult transition. I was so dizzy I nearly knocked over my bike. I had to sit down to remove my wetsuit as I couldn't stand. I put on a light jacket which slowed me down as well. As it was, I had to take it easy because I was all over due to vertigo. What would you do differently?: Not get dizzy? Bike
Comments: Needed more hill training coming in. But it was so cold my feet were absolutely numb. I don't wear socks and my tri shoes are open, so it was just brutally cold on the bike. What would you do differently?: Hill training Transition 2
Comments: My feet were absolutely numb. I couldn't feel them when I got off the bike. My toes were completely dead. What would you do differently?: Shoe covers? Run
Comments: Tough run, but I got through it. What would you do differently?: More hill training. Post race
Warm down: Just wandered around, eating, drinking What limited your ability to perform faster: Skill and training. Last updated: 2012-04-04 12:00 AM

Got to race about 6:30. It was still FRICKING COLD! My car thermometer showed 41 degrees. Ate half a bagel, a banana and then set up the T1 area. After that I jogged for about 10 minutes to try to get warm and think about what to wear on the bike since it was sure to be cold. Decided on a like jacket. Then put on the wetsuit and went down to the water for a pre-swim to get used to the cold conditions.
I jogged for about 10 minutes. Then went down to the water for a pre-swim to get used to the cold conditions. That was cold! But I adjusted and was ready for the start.
