Anyone else signing up for this one?  I'm riding the bike leg as a Timberman half relay team the week before so I'd thought I'd use that fitness to do this one.

I'm doing this one. It'll be my first half distance. Looking forward to it, but the swim has me a bit concerned just because of the temperature (I read somewhere the water averages 55-65 degrees).

The water temp should be 60-65, though right now the temps are pretty far over normal, possibly due to the warm winter we had.  At 60 degrees, with a wetsuit, the ocean actually doesn't feel as cold as you would think.  I'm not sure why, but the ocean at 60 feels like a lake at 65-70.  Once you're in and swimming it's usually not bad at all.

Thanks for the reassurance. The mid-atlantic's water temps spoil me a little, and a warm OWS doesn't need a wetsuit (of course the cooler ones still do).

I will be joining you guys for the fun!

3rd HIM for me (2 IMs under the belt as well).  Looking for a change of venue - first REV3.

Mainly focused on running this year, but wanted to keep a tri on the schedule to keep my swim and bike sharp.

Happy training,

Chris

That's a great write up.  The bike is a little over 56 miles, but it seems like a pretty tame course overall.  The ocean is typically pretty calm at OOB, and that trail run looks great.  Can't wait for this event.

I'm actually pretty excited that part of the run is on a trail. I'm starting to really enjoy gravel trail running more than paved road/path running. I've read a couple of places that the horseflies are pretty bad on it, so definitely get out your bug spray!

Glad to hear that the water tends to be calm. All of these things are starting to calm my nerves about "what in the world did I get myself into?!"

Does anyone know the road conditions?  The video link made the roads look pretty nice.

I'd love to get up there to ride the course, I may try to do it the week before since I'm on vacation, but it's a few hour drive from my place.

Based on the write up from this link: http://rev3tri.com/rev3-maine-course-recon-an-age-groupers-perspective/ , it looks like it's relatively smooth roads until mile 40. She says that at mile 40 there are a few miles of not so great roads, then it's back to smoother roads. She also said that the first bit of the course is on a pretty heavily traveled road.

Did you all see the medals and visors? Rev3 posted them to their FB page yesterday. 25 days!

Unless the roads have all been repaved. Expect various potholes and rough surfaces. The winter tends to beat up the roads pretty bad in them there parts...  But yes, the video looks pretty good.

And once you lose feeling in your face, you'll hardly notice anyways.

I'm more worried about spending 19 hours in a car with Slayer than I am about the race. 70.3 miles should be the easy part!

This race preview posted ealier points out some rougher spots... but it is the NorthEast, so my expectations aren't super-high. Luckily, there are plenty of awful roads here in Tucson, that make that course preview look beautiful
