Overall Rank = 15/50
Age Group = 30-30f
Age Group Rank = 1/9
Pre-race routine:

Had half an english muffin with some peanut butter first thing, arrived around 5:45. Set up, all that went well. Had a long time before my wave. Ate a clif bar, half a banana. Closer towards my start, I felt a little queasy, probably nervous, couldn't shake that feeling. It went away on it's own when I was at the start line.
Event warmup:

A lot of people were swimming in the ocean for a warm-up, I just waded in the water a bit, didn't feel like tiring myself before I started.
Swim
  • 11m 47s
  • 410 yards
  • 02m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was hard getting out there. I probably dove under 4 large waves. I felt like I got the rhythm of that eventually. Once I was around the buoy, I felt alright. I was afraid I would have needed to rest with a lifeguard. I had a hard time seeing who was who around me- lifeguards, swim buddies, other swimmers... I guess that's because I was in front! Glad I read my comments from the last time and reminded myself to be more confident in the swim. Used Swim Bike Mom's method: "Am I moving forward? Yes? Good, let's go!"

The long run up to transition would be part of this overall time as well.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more surf. i.e. more beach days with the family :) And swim more in general, if it's going to be a strength, rely on it to get me ahead.
Transition 1
  • 03m 16s
Comments:

Tried PAM on the suit, didn't help any. Still got stuck on my wrists, but I had a long run up to T1, so that bought me more time to get the suit off. Felt ok, cautious, getting out. It wasn't very crowded at the mount line, felt lucky in that regards.

Felt faster than the last one... apparently not.
What would you do differently?:

Move on to the next strategy to get the wetsuit off!
Bike
  • 22m 46s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 16.37 mile/hr
Comments:

Used top gear a lot- husband mentioned looking at this to see what could be improved. Still taking corners with great precaution. Passed a lot of people, felt good about that, but definately tried to go faster than usual because it was such a short distance. Not sure how I'd do with a second lap.
What would you do differently?:

Cyclometer broke, so had no data. Get that replaced to see mph.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

Nothing special here. Felt like it went smooth.
What would you do differently?:

Haven't tried this shoe-off while on the bike thing yet... a skill to learn.
Run
  • 13m 45s
  • 1.55 miles
  • 08m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Yay stats- this shows me where I need to improve! It was still a good run overall.
What would you do differently?:

Run more. Drink enough on the bike so I don't feel like I have to stop by aid stations.
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing special- put my stuff away, then went to cheer Mom on the finish line for her duathlon.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Road rash knee was still sore, so I didn't run as much in training the past week. First time in the ocean. Need to work on T1.

Event comments:

Stuck around for awards. For my first place, I got a beer glass, some sunglasses, and an extra bag of coupons and a clif bar.

Congrats on an awesome first place finish. You rocked it, the super sprint women appeared to fight faster sets than some of the earlier groups. Nice job!
