Subject: Suggestions for transferring cleat position to new shoes?

Does anyone have a good way of transferring over cleat position from an old pair of shoes to a new pair?  I am replacing my current shoes with a different brand and also putting new cleats on (same pedal and cleat style, just new cleats).  I have used it for about a week and it has become clear that my left one is not setup the same and is affecting my knee a bit.  I did a short ride this morning with the old shoes and could feel that something was different.

I am going to try getting on the trainer and tweaking the new cleat to try to get it setup the same but does anyone have any good tips/tricks to get things the same?  The old shoe is a Bont Sub-10, new shoe is a Shimano TR-31.  The pedals/cleats are Speedplays - lots of adjustability in the float and position.

Thanks for any advice.

Basically you need to mark the points where your big toe joint and small toe joint are and that is where the middle of the cleat should lay.

I didnt do the white out steps but the way I have done it is by putting on the shoe feeling the left side for my big toe joint then I took a pencil and made a small mark on the outside of the shoe where that location was. Then I did the same thing on the right side finding the small toe joint and made a pencil mark.
Then take a piece of yarn or thread line it up with each mark. The thread should lay flush with the bottom of the shoe giving you a line on the sole. This line will give you the mid location of where the cleat should lay. You can then mark the underside of the shoe and use that as your focal point for lining up the cleat in the middle of that mark.

There is a cool tool that allows you to do it easily. Here is a video about it. Here is more info.

Changing between shoe brands is more challenging than new shoes of same brand/style.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I guess what I was looking for was a way to duplicate what I had on my old shoe - whether it was "correct" or not.  I had no issues with my knee with the old setup.
