Subject: Who's been to Curaçao?

The fiance and I are looking into honeymoons for this September. We've looked at Aruba, but Curaçao has really drawn our attention.

If you have gone, can you tell me where you stayed, what you did and how you liked the island?  We're hoping to do something all-inclusive so any tips there would be great.

And if you have other suggestions for a honeymoon in late September that is in a warm location within an 8 hour(ish) flight of Boston, let 'em rip!

ETA: We only have about a week due to our work schedules.

I took a dive trip there about 9 or 10 years ago. It was OK, but I don't plan to go back. On the other hand, if you are looking at the ABC islands, have you thought about Bonaire? We did a dive trip there in 2010, and are going back in February. Great shore dives and snorkeling, there was a lively restaurant scene, and a donkey rescue/habitat. Mrs. gearboy doesn't dive, so we would eat breakfast together, then I would join the divers until lunch while she hung out in the cabanas by the pool, meet up for lunch, more diving while she would read by the shore, then out for dinner with the rest of the group.

A few years back (when the company was still in business) a former GF and I did the ABC Islands cruise with the old Windjammer Barefoot Cruises. We spent 2 days on Curacao (how do you get the second 'c' with the tail?) and two on Bonaire. I enjoyed Curacao, but loved Bonaire more. If you're looking for city activities, Curacao will be better. If you want relative quiet, but to still have a lot to do, Bonaire is great. I wanted to go on a mountain bike tour of their "national park", but there weren't enough of us signed up for the tour operator to do it. We did go on a kayak tour of the mangroves and I did a bunch of snorkling in the harbor. There are motorcycle rentals not far from the harbor and airport if you ride.

Curacao is great also, I just happened to enjoy Bonaire more.

We went in the winter of '08 and stayed at the Marriott.  I was pregnant at the time so I just wanted to relax and enjoy the sun but we did go off resort for dinners and just drove around the island 1 day.  My biggest memory was in doing research people raved about the food but I could not eat anything at most restaurants we went to.   maybe it was bc I was pregnant but it all smelled and tasted like poo to me. Even the fish.  There is a decent grocery store (and fridge in the room) so we did stock up on food I could tolerate. Super cheap gouda though.  I don't think you need more than a week for sure.  Pretty island.  Seemed on the wealthier side in comparison to other caribean islands bc of the oil industry.

I went there on a Cruise.  It's REALLY nice!  Aruba is just as nice though!  The Swim with the Dolphins in Caracao is INCREDIBLE though!!!

I stayed at Habitat Curacao Dive Resort when in first opened about 15 years ago.  If you are a diver it was a great place to stay.  The one bad part of the resort was that it was about an hour from Williamstadt, so if you are looking for a place with nightlife it wasn't a good place to stay.
