Swim
Comments: The south wind was blowing hard, making some whitecaps on the lake, and you could see the current that we'd be swimming against for the final 350m. Tried to stay calm and tell myself that the swim was my strength, and that people would be hurting a lot more than I would. I rounded the 1st buoy and was in the wide open water until I caught the wave that started 5 mins ahead of us and the wave that started 5 minutes in front of them. Pretty pleased with my swim time, only 1.5 minutes slower than last year when we had ideal conditions. What would you do differently?: Swim a little more maybe. Swimming is my strength, but a few more swim sessions probably could have shaved a minute or so. Transition 1
Comments: About 10 seconds faster than last year, but otherwise uneventful. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Got through T1 pretty quickly, and hopped on the bike. For the 2nd year in a row, my speedometer didn't register speed, so I did my best to calculate mph based on landmarks and my watch. The ride south along 54A was tough with the wind, and the rain didn't help. By the end of the ride I had trouble getting my shoes off because my hands were numb. About 2 minutes slower than last year, which I'll attribute to the weather. What would you do differently?: Pack a long sleeve shirt for the ride, and double DOUBLE check my speedo. More hill training would help also, but given the conditions, I wasn't too upset. Transition 2
Comments: Hands were so cold that I just tucked my laces into my shoes and started running. Once I warmed up a bit, I stopped to tie my shoes. What would you do differently?: Wear warmer clothes. Run
Comments: So naturally, the wind had blown my plastic bag off my transition set up, so my running shoes were full of water. That was awesome...I'm just a dreadful runner, and not having enough time to train really showed. It's an improvement over last year, but my goal for August triathlon is to get down to 10/mile. What would you do differently?: Train more, and lose weight. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed some water and waited for friends to come in. Found my bag and put a dry sweatshirt on. Got the chills immediately and went to the car to warm up. Loaded up the bike, and stopped in for lunch. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training time...lack of rides outside...too heavy. Last updated: 2012-06-04 12:00 AM

Got up @ 4AM, loaded the bike, had a banana and some peanut butter. Quick last minute check of everything and on my way for 1.5 hour drive. I had reconciled myself to the fact that I probably wasn't going to be as fast as last year, based on a new baby on the way, and an utter lack of run training.
Not much. Just got the wetsuit on and watched the early waves go off. Stayed warm in a sweatshirt as it was starting to rain and was cold.
