to insects when I sweat?  I swear, running, biking - doesn't matter, I get smacked in the face every time I train.  It's not just one type of insect either.  They do not discriminate.  I have been whacked in the face by bee's (black and honey), small gnats, moths, flies.  I'm starting to think they are targeting me.

They fly in my mouth too. Today I picked close to 30 dead black gnats off my arms. It was extreme today as I was wearing some Hawaiian Tropic suntan oil. Now I'm tan, but with "bug lines".

Nice...the new look of cyclists.

Sounds like you rode through a small swarm.  We don't have that problem in in the Northwest.  I get hit by one bug - usually a big one...and it's like they are dive bombing me.  It's weird.

....allows me to trot out this old chestnut:

"How can you tell how happy a cyclist is?"

"Count the bugs between their teeth."

Even paranoids have enemies

I do think some people are more attractive to bugs. The kids and I were sitting outside Saturday having dinner and the only one who got bit was my younger son.

Most gnats I've ever seen in one place was at the Devilman triathlon this year. I've never seen anything like it, I had hundreds of bites and had to get medication. Took two weeks to clear up. They never let up, it was maddening. It was so bad we cancelled our tri club picnic and hightailed it out of there.

Gnats are not my friends either. Many years ago, I was on an easy afternoon run and ran through a swarm of gnats. Normally harmless and not an issue. Well not this day, one of the little suckas got in my ear. I mean in my ear buzzing around on my eardrum!!! It just about drove me insane. A few hours later I ended up in the ER for help. I was in college so even the copay was $$$.

But I learned a valuable lesson, next time you get a bug in your ear, just put a good flashlight to your ear and it'll fly right out. That was some high-tech medical treatment there. Thank you, that will be $75. But don't get me wrong, it was effective. Obviously I didn't think of it.

For me it's not the gnats that bug me (we dont' have a lot of them here in Washington), it's the big insects.  I've been smacked (seems to always be in the face) by big bumble bee's, and big flies.  It seems to happen on almost every ride or run.

I can feel your pain.  I get hit by beetles, gnats, bees, and moths.  I am just extremely thankful that I live in TX now, and not in Miami where I grew up.  I couldn't handle a palmetto bug hitting me.  There is nothing worse than gigantic flying cockroaches!

On Saturday, a bee and I collided, it got stuck in my helmet and stung me on my head!

I also ALWAYS wear sunglasses on a bike ride. I've never been hit in the eyeball, but the amount of insects that crash directly into my lenses has got to be endangering a few species of bugs.

Isn't it obvious muskrat?  You must not have been breast-fed as an infant!

seriously, yeah, bugs love me.  I'm fairly tall too, which probably doesn't help.

Anyone ever play Mavis Beacon teaches typing? There's a game where a bug splats against the screen everytime you make a typo. That's how I felt today. Luckily no oil so they didn't stick today.

That's what I'm worried about.  I am very allergic to bees and have had a few hit me while out and a ride.  I decided to carry a epipen with me on my rides.  Now let's hope if I ever get stung I'm bada** enough to stab myself with it and keep going, hopefully with all that adrenaline in a full on sprint.
