Subject: Securing a domain name- question
Hello everyone! We have some smart people on BT, so I figured I'd ask you this... I want to secure a domain name. I know it is available as I went and looked it up on GoDaddy.com.

Here's my question, if I secure it through Go Daddy, will I have to use them for web hosting as well? If I do end up using the domain name, I will need to use a company that will create my website from a template and host my ecommerce website. Go Daddy seemed rather expensive, so I don't want to use them for it.

Their price for the domain was $13 for the year. Is there a better place to go to secure my domain name?

I want to secure the name, but I don't want to make the decision on web hosting and website design just yet. I might not even end up using it.

Thanks for the help!

No, you can register wherever you want and you can host with anybody.

I've heard good things about godaddy but I've used http://www.dotster.com/for about 12 years now and not had a single issue with them.

Get the name. Worry about design and whatnot later. It's called "Parking a domain"

You can buy the domain at GoDaddy and then use any other provider you want for hosting the site.

The host will give you 2 "Nameserver" addresses to point to.
You'll then plug those into your GoDaddy domain within the domain manager.

It can take up to 48 hours for the change to propagate through the web,
although usually it's much faster.
