Okay, back at it again. I am on a mission to lose 10lbs and back to my race weight.

I am "almost" 45 years old, 5'5 and this morning the scales said 139lbs and I nearly died!!! Must get back down to 130/129. So, to stay honest I am starting this thread and will weigh in each Monday and post here.

Feel free to join me! It`s always better to have some friends along the way.

Ooh, I'll join in!  I am 44 and 5'5" also!  I am currently 133.2 and would much prefer to be at my racing weight of 125.  I also have serious cholesterol issues, which is another reason to lose a few pounds and eat better.  I was 142 about 5 years ago, got down to 123, and then have been creeping up since.  I moved recently which brought me up to 138 (!), and I'm managed to inch back down to where I am now.

What strategies are you using?  And what are your summer race goals?

Hit my low four years ago at ~170 lbs. after peaking about 10 years ago at 205.  After a job change and more time spent commuting, my weight had climbed over the past year to about 185 when I checked a couple months back.  Weighed in at 182 lbs. this morning, down from 183 a week ago.  I'd like to get back down in the ballpark of 170 by year's end, if not sooner.

I don`t have any races planned just yet but intend to get back on the band waggon after a few years off racing. I got very sick for 3 years but am much better now and ready to go full out again. I am still on medication that causes weight gain and it is extremely annoying, but I do my best to try to control it.  My long term race would be 1/2 ironman next March, never done one and the start of the swim is vertually out my back door so I HAVE to do it.

125lbs is my fav weight at my height, I love 125lbs but am happy to be 129lb (ish). Lets get the ball rolling. Your weight sounds pretty good, not sure about you but alot of people always tell me I don`t need to lose anything, but for me to feel strong and 'good' I need to lose the 10lbs.

I'm a little heavy in the middle and my cholesterol reflects that but I do get the same comments you do.  I've never done a 1/2 IM but I hope to someday.  I have an oly planned for Labor day weekend, so that's my next target.  I am glad you are feeling better now!

@ Seven- welcome!

Well I'm game.  Started this journey in late Feb at 246.7# at age 56, 5'11" tall.  Weighed in at 210.4# this morning.  Looking to do my first tri, a sprint, in Sept. I would like to be under 200 by then.

Not really sure what my goal is.  Long time ago in a place far far away I swam competetively at 162#. I would think today getting to 180 would be a great acomplishment.

My wife continues to be my biggest supporter but this will help me.  Thanks for starting it.

Well I am down a few and would like to say it was from hard work but, not so much.  My son was in the hospital for 8 days.  He is home now and doing great!  So I am re-energized and ready to get back at it.

Things are going well this week so far.  Workouts are consistent, and I'm doing a much better job of not snacking after dinner, although I did have some modest dessert a couple nights and haven't really cut out an evening glass of wine or beer yet.  I'm hoping to just keep the snacking down to a minimum and gradually shed the excess fat without having to get too drastic with my eating habits.

I weigh myself daily and it's not looking great, but I did run 6 today and spent the rest unpacking boxes . On the downside the kids are away and our kitchen is filled with boxes, which means eating out at yummy restaurants. I will try to make good decisions.

My weight has jumped around this week but at least in the right direction:

07.02.12 = 209.0

06.25.12 = 210.4

Ugh, 134.4 today.  I was pretty active this weekend but we ate out a lot.  I'm hoping there's some fluid retention there .

Back to being careful today!

Just tracking food and exercise - making decisions like 10 apples or 3 cookies...sometimes I still choose 3 cookies

Working out and training for Tri's - I'm back on the band wagon, I took 2010/2011 off to have a baby, he will turn 1 the day after my A race this year (Lake Stevens Half Ironman - I'm the swim relay).

Doritos with wine?    Those nighttime snacks have been my nemesis.  Once I start, it just opens the floodgates, then it's Doritos, followed by something sweet, then some taquitos and pizza rolls, and it just goes on.  Eating a little more at dinner, maybe more than I need but not nearly as much as I'd snack on later, has helped me curb the nighttime snacking for the past couple of weeks.  Even tacking on a bit of dessert right at the end of dinner.  Then I just declare that I'm done for the night, and that is that.  Maybe some water later, or a glass of wine when it's time to relax.  But no more food.

Alright, the holiday is almost behind us.  How'd everybody do eating today?  I have to admit that I got a bit out-of-control this afternoon and went to town in the food pantry.  I'll be extra good tomorrow.

Yeah, I wasn't terribly well behaved either!  But I got up at 6 and ran 4 miles this morning.

Does anyone else find that it's much harder to lose weight when they are exercising more?  I think I tend to get more hungry, and I eat more than I ought to...  I recently got a "fitbit" - cool little piece of technology-- and I'm trying to be good about logging food and keeping track of the calories I have each day, with or without the exercise!

For me, weight loss requires not pigging out + some amount of training.  I can train tons, and eat sloppily, and I will lose little or no weight.  But if I both train consistently and eat carefully, I will definitely lose the excess.  I have noticed that I do have greater appetite when I first begin ramping up my training volume, especially after my long ride of the week.  After a few times at 50+ miles though, I usually adjust and can eat more normally.

I managed to get a mile swim (in a lake no less) yesterday and - even better - I cooked/baked for a potluck and managed to keep my calories well below my limit.  I baked a cake and ate none of it (ok- I did lick the bowl a little but not much, I even washed some of the extra batter down the sink - that was HARD TO DO!!).

I stuck to my plan at the potluck and really feel good about my choices.

Here's some of the treats I made:
