I'm shopping for a real pair of running shoes. Anybody that knows me would rightly assume I'd gravitate to hot pink ones.

I found some I like in Asics, but only in the women's sizes.

I have pretty small feet for a guy. About 8.5/9 or so. I tried on the ladies' in an 11 and they seem to fit fine.

Any perils to watch out for? Could they be too narrow even though they don't feel right?

Do you mean, could they be too narrow even if they DO feel right? If the shoe fits, wear it

Does the store have a return policy on runnies? If not, find one that does. Honestly, I pretty much know a shoe fits or it doesn't the moment I try it on. I do run a bit in them anyway before buying.

My ex-father-in-law used to buy women's running shoes ... he did have incredibly narrow feet.

As a former shoe-dog ignore everything except how they fit.  There will be no down side.  I have seen shoes that fit like socks on a rooster but they do fit someone.

I too have a narrow foot except it is a size 13.  I have to be very careful to find styles or brands that work for me (read too expensive).  There was a great German brand of running shoes many years ago that always ran narrow and long.  Great for me but that is likely why they didn't survive.

That depends... do you run like a girl? Do you want to?

Kidding aside, I don't see the problem as long as the shoe fits your foot well. Run short distances in it first and make sure it doesn't cause any hot spots or pinch points.

Women's shoes tend to be a size narrower then men's in width and toe box.

I buy men's shoes as they are wider than women's shoes. I go down 1-1.5 sizes buying men's shoes.

I have a couple of pairs of Nike Run Free, that are the female version, no problem with them. Mine are not hot pink!

I think so. There's a 1.5 size difference. I just got size 12 women's running shoes for $60 when the cheapest in men's size 10.5 was over $150. Women's run a little narrow according to what I've seen others say but running shoes like these that are flexible and have thin side walls shouldn't present a problem. Just have to wait for them to get shipped to me and we'll see.

If they fit just wear them. Many brands of shoes come in a "Narrow" version anyhow.

I have a pair of Bright Orange Asics right now but have been complaining for years  that the women's models have better colors than the men's models do.  It is not just the pinks either.  They have a neons, purples, teal, etc.  I never tried on a womans pair on but if they fit well would take them.

Regular width in women's shoes is B. Regular width in men's is D. Generally women's shoes are 1.5 sizes different than men's. If you wear an 8.5 in men's, it would be 10 in women's. A size 11 women's could be too long. Asics shoes may also be built differently between men's and women's models, depending on the model. Some of the men's styles have a lower drop than the same model in women's.

All that being said, if the shoes fit comfortably go ahead and wear them.

This model sells new straight from New Balance for $99.99. They often have discounts for first time buyers. More than likely the women's model will be a B width, while the men's is a D width. The 1400v5 is the shoe I run in and it's a great shoe for fast running. My size 13 feet are not going to get into any women's shoes though.

    Even I honestly prefer Nike.
For some reason, my feet are just more comfortable while running than any other brand
I have found out that it only takes me 3 runs to break into these shoes and it takes like twice the time for the others.
I have always preferred Nike from the start.

I'd say try them out if they fit well in the store.
If they start causing pain, toss them.
Like most clothing and accessories, sizes and fit vary by brand and style, so if a women's shoe works, do it.

    Yes.

My wife wears mens shoes because women's shoes are always to narrow.

However...you get to much pink on them...get ready for the snickers behind your back. lol.

But if your running a lot in preparation for a tri...or in competition..to hell with the brand, name, look, etc. Its what fits and gives you the results you want! have at it.
