I'm signed up for the sprint on Saturday.

Looking forward to this race and shaving some serious time off of last years numbers. (The running...always the running that does me in... )

Who else is in?  Any helpful hints? This is only my second time doing this course....

I signed up for the OLY. This is my first Lakeside so I would also like to hear from people who have done this race or train in this area.

I'll be volunteering at the finish line on Saturday.  Scouting the event for next year.

Since you have never raced the Oly here I will give you the RD's notes on the bike.

Wind usually from the N/W. If that is the case on race day:

1) The first 5k will be into a headwind, but is relatively flat;

2) Next 7km is north and a slight incline;

3) The next 13k should be a tailwind and is a rolling section after the 20k point. The first hill that might test you is before Harrington and the second is after;

4) The southbound section on County Rd 6 is mostly downhill

5) This is the tough part of the course (especially if there is a headwind) Once you turn onto Road 92 you will encounter about 7k of rollers that will tax you. Look for the radio antenna on your left around 37k. That is the last hill that will take some more out of your legs.  Once you climb that hill it is all downhill to Lakeside. Be careful on the final left turn and do not be too aggressive.

The run is gently rolling with the majority on dirt/gravel roads. Pick your line to stay on dirt.

I hope that helps.

Please say hi on race day.

i'm registered for the olympic, but a broken wrist on 08/26 means i won't be racing. pity, as i was really looking forward to it - lakeside is such a gorgeous venue, and i thoroughly enjoyed doing the oly there last year.

i'll probably be out on the course somewhere on sunday volunteering instead.

cheers!

I'm in.  3rd time there for me - awesome venue and MSC does an outstanding job.  Sprint Tri for me this year (9am start on Sunday too early for the family and travel....).  Let's hope the weather starts to clear, hand numb feet coming off the bike last year.

Lakeside update - We have been able to reconfigure part of the Transition and created an additional 20 spots for the Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon as well as the Olympic Triathlon. If you want to race in Lakeside we suggest you register today.

I'm in, sprint tri on Saturday.  I raced there two years ago when the bike was short, so I guess I'll be setting a PB as long as I cross the line haha.

For the sprint tri - one word advise for a somewhat local person.  When turning right onto road  92, the first 2-300 metres up the hill are in VERY rough shape.  I would ride a little wide through that area.  The east side of the big hill, which was in rough shape last year, was repaved in the spring and is in great condition now.  you can fly down that hill.  There are a couple of fast left and right hand turns.  slow down on the corners - all summer long there has been gravel on them.  Particularly the right onto 31st line.  John - do you typically have people go out to sweep the corners in the morning?  I've almost crashed on that turn once or twice this summer.

We have always swept every corner. We actually purchased a high power leaf blower at the beginning of this year and it works wonders to get all debris after we have swept.
