Comments: started at the front part of the pack near the pylons, most started at a wade near the shore. The front position gave me lots of flat water to start. What would you do differently?: maybe make sure I put in a better time estimate. Transition 1
Comments: There was a very short, somewhat steep hill to pull your bike up to get out of the transition area. I realized on the hill I still had my helmet in my hands, was getting close to leaving transition with it in my hands, not on my head. Also, my wetsuit stuck on my left heel, cost me time. I struggled taking it off without ripping of my time tracker. What would you do differently?: handle the helmet thing better. Make sure the shoes were open and primed. Bike
Comments: I truly thought the corners were going to be bad, fighting with a cluster of riders-- but it wasn't too bad. Enjoyed all the people cheering, didn't have that at the last race. What would you do differently?: get a front-mounted water bottle. Grabbing water slows me down. Transition 2
Comments: We had to walk the bike down the short steep little hill, with wet grass. Some slipping so had to be careful. What would you do differently?: Maybe unbuckle the shoes on the last stretch, that caused a minor delay. Wish I could run without socks, but too many blisters! Run
Comments: Thought I had trained better for hills, but I guess not-- had to walk up most of them as the heart rate was high and the breathing heavy. Despite this, was surprised to see my time at under a 10min mile, which is good for me-- the interval training really paid off, but could always use more. What would you do differently?: train for more hills. (or better yet, select a tri with a flat run!). Also, would like to focus on a pace under a 9min mile-- a new goal! Post race
Warm down: some stretching after the race. Came home and hit the jacuzzi, stretched for about a half hour after that. What limited your ability to perform faster: hill training, lack of sleep (about 4.5 hrs), feeling like I was on a different time zone as I had flown in from Oregon the night before! Event comments: Really enjoyed the cheering section, especially since my family couldn't be there. I smiled every time I went by, it was much appreciated. Lots of volunteers, they did a nice job. Lots of drink stations-thanks! Run was too hilly, I expected some, but not at every turn! Last updated: 2006-02-11 12:00 AM
