Ironman 70.3 Augusta : Official Thread

I did Augusta last year and had a blast.  I'm doing IMFL 2013 as well.  However, I'm on the fence about doing Augusta.  I would be missing key workouts that week leading up to Augusta and race weekend.  Also, 2500+ racers would increase risk factor of a freak accident on the bike.  I saw and heard some wipeouts.  If there is a big injury to myself and\or bike, I don't think 4 weeks would give me enough time to recover.  I'm still trying to talk myself into signing up.

Totally understand the fear of injuy.  Lots of people use Augusta as a warmup for IM Fla though.  I did IMFLA 12.  Tried to be as safe as possible and still broke my pinky to the weekend before so there are no gaurantees   Fortunately it was just the toe that runs wee wee all the way home so I got through the race.  Looking forward to seeing you all out there!

Just signed up for Augusta again, did this race in 2011.  This will be my warm up for IMAZ.

Hope the weather is cooling this year versus what it was 2 years ago.

Yes, the Marriott is full. We booked at the Ramada Inn. It had good reviews and is actually closer to the swim start and transition than the Marriott...and it is only $119 vs. $164 at Marriott.

thanks for the information; I did book at the Ramada.  I did a few easy sessions this weekend, just trying to get back into a groove with training. My main goal for the next 6-8 weeks is to focus on consistency, good nutrition, easy sessions-avoiding injury. SKI- we have done this before; I'm sure we can do it again, maybe just not next week... ! we have plenty of time to get there.

Congrats on BoneIsland.  I did the full.  I live in Augusta and have done the race 3 times.  The bike course is not closed and doesn't have dedicated lanes but it is a much better course than BIT.  There is traffic but not near the traffic or speed that was on US1.  The swim is crazy fast and "flat" compared to those waves and swells that kicked our but at BIT. The bike is no worse than what you did if you consider the head winds we dealt with.  The run is flat and very very spectator friendly.  No running on sidewalks and the streets downtown are completely closed off to traffic for the race.  You will enjoy Augusta if you decide to do it.  I probably won't do it since I'm doing IM Canada the month before but I will be out cheering everyone on.

Thanks for the course report and again congrats on getting through that Ironman distance course at the BIT. Holy cow, I live here and it was still tough. But you are definitely reading my mind on what I am looking for in the bike course. I never completely relaxed (not that I would anyway), and always had this fear of going off the shoulder or being hit, plus had a 10 minute hold up by the MCSO at the turnaround that did not make me happy. Anyway, thanks for the insight and best of luck at IM Canada.
