Curious if anyone has had good first-hand experience with an online repair to replace a screen on an iPod Touch. My son dropped his, cracked the screen and would like to replace. It's still fully functional and works just fine, just with the screen cracked in multiple spots (separate rant, but why can't Apple use a different glass/screen like some other companies do that would stand up to a little more abuse).

I see a number of different companies online that offer this type of repair, all with "great" reviews, but I suspect that some are better than others, more reasonably priced, etc.

Do you have any first-hand experience with a repair of this nature, and a company that you would recommend?

How old is it?  I have an old one (The kind without the camera).  i dropped it in a cup id sprite and it's dead...  You can have it if you want and try to swap screens.  Here's a How to video...

Are there any phone repair places local?  I much prefer to deal with people face to face.  It's not real tough to get "great" reviews online.

Have used the places in the middle of mall to replace cracked screens on iPhones.  They will do touches also.  $60 bucks and 20 minutes and they work perfectly.

You can also do it yourself.  I replaced the back on mine.  $20 and 3 1/2 mninutes, maybe even 4.

Best Buy does it also.

It's a new 5th Gen model so probably wouldn't work but appreciate the offer! Thanks for the link too...

You can try to do it yourself...there are videos.  But it isn't exactly simple.  I tried to do it myself but it didn't come out quite right...took it to a local place that fixed it right up.  Experience is worth something.

I'd definitely try to stay local instead of sending it somewhere.

You can check with apple too..they may do an out of warranty repair or replace for less than what it might cost to get a repair place to repair it...

We just got my son's itouch fixed yesterday after I dropped it and broke the glass. We took it to a local place called You Break I Fix- I think it is a chain. It cost $60 and looks brand new today.

x2 on the local. I found a guy in midtown NYC who repaired my daughter's Ipad for $125  like new and Itouch for someone else about $50- both looked brand new afterward, and done while you wait, no shipping costs or waiting on delivery...
