kevkelsar - 2013-03-22 1:24 PM I have no experience with good beer, I don't drink, but The Bohemian in Midvale (central part of the valley) has great food! My brother (who does drink) says the ale is good.
mmm.... Bohemian beer = YUM!!!! They have a Veinese
(sp?
) that I LOVE!!! My co-worker keeps raving over Epic brewery, but I'm yet to try it. I've also been wanting to go to the new distillery in Park City
(High West
) I heard it's really good as well.
Not sure how soon you're coming out.... My favorite trails to run are up Millcreek and Big
(NOT quite ready yet
). Though there is a nice trail that follows Bonneville Shoreline up behind the U.
(Can be run now
)
As well, one of my favorite hill repeat runs is to start in the Ave's
(2nd Ave b/t Q & R streets at Cucina Deli
) and run up and across until you get to 11th Ave. Follow it west and curve around the canyon. As you get to the State Capital, look for a set of stairs, run down and up one block, turn left down what appears to be dead end but you run up the stairs. Drops you on 5th Ave to run back to car. GREAT 5.6 mile run!!! You can also add more hill and miles by running up City Creek Canyon
(single track to the left, pavement straight ahead
).
On the tourist level... Haven't been to the Leonardo yet, but I've heard good things about it. IMHO, the zoo is okay. I always take family up the canyons or to Park City when they come to visit. PC is a quick 30 min drive up I-80.
If your son likes to ski or board the U has a student club that gets discounts on season passes, so much so, I wish I was back in school again
We really do have some good FOOD! Yep... here's my fav's... Frida Bistro
(upscale Mexican, you're not going to find a mexican burrito on the menu - you want that, you purchase their sister company burrito at the grocery in the frozen food dept - RICO
); Lugano's
(REALLY good Italian in the Millcreek Area
); Market Street Broiler
(nothing out of ordinary, but the freshest seafood restuarant around 1300 East 350 South - Next to my favorite LBS - Cyclesmith
); Naked Fish Bistro
(Downtown, the only place I'll really eat Octopus, okay... so their seafood is fresh too
)
If you're keeping things cheap while here... there's a Sunflower on 2nd South and 700 East that I frequent, or Whole Foods on 700 East and 500 South
(that has a really good deli
). Smith's
(our local Kroger
) is on 400 South and 500 East.
Let me know if you have any questions about the area.
I have to say, Grad School is what brought me from Louisiana to Utah 15 yrs ago, and I never left. Though I did transfer to USU not UofU.
