How do I get the remaining little bit of chain oil off the headliner cloth in a friend's car before she gets back into town and kills me? I had put a cloth over the crankset, but it slipped off.

Maybe the car gets stolen?  Maybe it gets torched or driven into a lake?  Who knows what can happen?  It's a dangerous world!

Or maybe just slip by a detail shop as they're pros at stuff like that...

Grease Monkey Wipes are worth their weight in gold. That said, I'm with Julio - Let a pro handle the job if at all possible.

This will get it out:

Sterling’s Magic All-Purpose Cleaner
http://www.carrmclean.ca/CategoryGroupBrowser.aspx?CategoryID=191&G...

That 1/2 L will probably last you a year or two. A teaspoon of it dumped into a cup of water, nuke it for a minute or so until it's dissolved, then spray it on a towel and wipe.

It's amazing stuff.

They've changed the packaging. I've not used the new stuff yet but if it's the same, this will be a cheaper place if you're in the states:
