A friend was out there today - water temp is 60 already, looks like yet again, it will be okay without a wetsuit on race day...

Maybe I'll be able to "race" anyway. (by race I mean swim, try not to have to walk my bike up the hills and waddle the run of the give-it-a-tro).  I'll be about 7 months pregnant on race day and my wetsuit definitely doesn't fit

I have plans to get out there later this week as long as the weather holds up! I went in waist deep while I was out for a run and it didn't feel bad at all.

Do you know Lisa?  She is planning on swimming with a group on Wednesday night (from Roth Park) 6pm for swim and run, swim start is at the dragon boat dock, I'm sure they would welcome an extra swimmer.

Temp was 62 yesterday.

Any update on the lake... 5 days away... planning on jumping in without a wetsuit (I just can't pull on a wetsuit for a try-a-tri distance)... hoping I don't regret that decision.

I was wondering the same thing, I will see what I can do about getting an updated temperature.

Keep in mind, that depending on the air temperature on Sunday, the race may be wetsuit mandatory. I think they are saying it is supposed to get down to 4 at night, so there is a good chance the sprint will be wetsuit mandatory. Hopefully it will warm up quickly.

Noob question... what happens if they make it wetsuit mandatory and you don't have one?

Mornin' everyone

They always have some for rent at the venues - Multi-Zone Sports will have some

Just get there early to make sure you can get one

Have fun and see you all in Milton

Happy Training but Be Safe

Jean

MultiSport Zone will not be at the race this year. If you are looking to rent a wetsuit I would suggest calling them. I know they were down to only having a few rentals left.

Daffodil is right. The decision as to whether it is wetsuit mandatory is a combination of water and air temperature. Remember when you come out of the water you can always get hypothermia on the bike. That is the safety concern. At this point it looks like it will probably be a wetsuit mandatory swim. We will make that decision on race morning after taking the water temperature and combing it with the air temperature.

If you do not have a wetsuit and still want to trace we will put you in the duathlon. If it is wetsuit mandatory we will create a shorter duathlon for the Give-It-A-Tri athletes.

I hope that answers your questions.

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Everyone has been saying for months now 'don't worry, its ALWAYS warm enough'. I fully understand the reasoning, but i'm super frustrated (not at anyone obviously, just the general situation and my collosal lack of funds to put towards this sport despite giving it my all). Its really hard to justify driving 4 hours (1 hour each way to get it/drop it off) with a 5-year old in the back seat for something i'll wear for 20 minutes. Its all i can do to squeak out 5K at the end of the race, never mind 5K, plus another 2.5. I'm sorry to vent. I've just been trying so hard and am feeling really defeated this week.

I really wish we could control the weather, however that is out of our control.

Last year with the unusually warm spring a great many athletes did not use a wetsuit. Historically it has been a wetsuit OPTIONAL race. Here is the official rule. If the water temperature is below 18C then it is wetsuit mandatory. On the weekend the water temperature was 17.7C. We are getting the water temperature taken again today. The other side is the air temperature. If the water is 18C then the air temperature has to be more than 16C at race time.

Let's see what the water temp is later today.

I know i'm grasping at strings here, but what if I tell you that i'm pretty chubby ( = extra warmth) and I promise to wear a jacket on the bike. Would that help? I don't think i'm going to get this to work out in my favour. My fingers are crossed that someone will have a wetsuit for rent on this side of Toronto... stores open in 5 minutes. I'm not going down without a fight. If i lose on the wetsuit hunt, I may actually go down on the second run, but it won't be for lack of effort... Appreciate hearing from you John and am appreciative that I can switch to the Du if the weather's cold. Don't take my rationalizing as anything other than personal disappointment that I don't have what I want to have to make this work out better for myself.

I just got off the phone and D'Ornellas and they will be at the race on Sunday with a full line up of wetsuits. Rental fee is $40. You can phone and reserve if you prefer. 416-752-3838.

Haven't even been to a Milk event and already I'm blown away with your service. Just got off the phone with D'Ornellas, and I've got feelers out at two other stores. They're working on finding me something that will work as my fit isn't exactly standard. A million times, thank you. I'll do my best to shake your hand and thank you in person on Sunday. And I'll start saving up now for a suit for next year.

send me an e-mail at lj3jones at gmail dot com. I will be at the race volunteering and might be able to lend you my suit for the race if it is the right size. I won't be racing - 7 months preggo and don't fit into a wetsuit. It will take a miracle for me to be able to do the try-a-tri (i.e., have to be able to not wear a wetsuit), I'm not counting on it!

On another note - I also work in London and could pick up the suit from Multi-sport zone for you and bring it to the race venue. I work about 5 minutes from the shop and the owner used to be my coach (before I got pregnant).

Let us know.

I was in Pittock on Monday and last night with a wetsuit. Honestly I would put the temperature in the upper 60's. I did the toronto triathlon festival last year and the water was much colder than Pittock is right now.

John, if by a miracle, the temperature gets up to 20 C (68F) with the hot weather we had Saturday to Wednesday, what temperature does the air have to be fore the race to not be wetsuit mandatory?
