Subject: RE: Rev3 Maine - Half Rev : Official Thread NickChasovskykh - 2013-05-09 12:21 PM Hi guys, Toronto here, I am doing half, looking forward to the race, Has anyone done it last year, any comments on the course? Does it sell out? Not sure if it sold out last year. The course is fast and flat, particularly the run. The swim is in the ocean, so conditions could be variable. Last year the water was warm and incredibly calm. But it could be very different this year. There is a very long run up the beach and then along a road to transition, so prepare for that. The bike is pretty flat and on very nice roads. It's not overly technical though there are a fair number of 90 degree turns, but nothing on a downhill or a difficult to handle stretch. There are really no climbs to speak of, just a few moderate rollers. It's about as flat as a bike course gets in New England. The last few miles you link back up with the Oly racers, so that can be tricky as you may get into some traffic for a brief period. The bike is a little over 56 miles, maybe half a mile long. The run is an out and back very flat course, but once you turn out onto the old railroad trail there is no protection from the sun if it's that kind of day. Last year it was quite warm and the sun was relentless. There are plenty of aid stations and the volunteers were great with ice and I even got a quick massage on a cranky calf last year. Overall it's a great race run by a great group. It's fun seeing the pros and checking out their bike setups and such if you're into that. |
