Event warmup:

Jogged about 1/4 of a mile
Run
  • 14m 3s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Started out way too hard, did the first mile in 6:35 then realized I don't run that fast, backed off a bit for the rest of the first run.
What would you do differently?:

Started off a little bit slower.
Transition 1

Comments:

OK transition
Bike
  • 37m 48s

  • 22.22 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty pleased with the bike leg given the fact that It was pretty much my 3rd time out on the bike for the year, and the 2nd on the TT bike. Did the first half of the course pretty quickly, caught quite a few people, hit the turn around and suffered through the headwind for the rest of the race. Lost a few seconds near the end of the course because of an SUV that ended up stopping in front of me at the intersection being controlled by the police.
What would you do differently?:

Lose the 10 pounds i've gained since last year. More practice on hills.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 23m 51s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

Hills, pain, cramping, suffering. At about mile 1 my mind was really telling me that it would probably be a good idea to just walk the rest of this thing.
What would you do differently?:

Practice running on hills before doing a race like this. Practice running on hills before doing a race like this. Practice running on hills before doing a race like this.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat on the lawn and had lunch (hot dog, lemonade, chips)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Very little outdoor running practice, extra upper body weight from rock climbing.

Event comments:

Awesome event, probably one of the best duathlons put on in Minnesota.

Great Race! I was right in front of you at the TNT this past week, and recognized that sweet jersey in your avatar immediately. As I discovered last year at Gear West, Du's are really hard. They make for a great way to start the season. While I haven't run much lately, Training on hills can make a huge difference in improving both pace and endurance. Welcome to BT (though you've been on it a while), and maybe I'll see you around this summer!

Nice job! It is typical to go out too fast at the start of Run 1, especially with a mass start. Just too easy to get caught up in the excitement. This year was excellent weather unlike the past few years so you got to enjoy a nice day, too.
