walked 5 miles on the beach from the town I was staying in to the race

Comments:

the surf was BIG it was really rough I was tossed around like a buoy. near tears a few times. could not site the turn aorund as the surf hid it. got to the turn around and kept waiting for it to get easier as I was not supposedly with the current but got nailed by yet another wave and could not go any more. DNF. to add insult to injury when I swam to shore and stood up another 6 foot wave knocked me down.
What would you do differently?:

stick it out I guess. my first real DNF.
