Sunny
Total Time = 3h 12m 11s
Overall Rank = 146/166
Age Group = F35-39
Age Group Rank = 5/7
Pre-race routine:

drove to venue, set up in transition, warm-up swim in lake
Swim
  • 30m 20s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

beautiful lake, clean/calm water. loved this swim! kept a comfortable pace and felt good coming out of water.
Transition 1
  • 03m 2s
Comments:

slowest transition, but that was part of my plan... to take it easy this race since it was my first olympic. in hindsight, i should have hurried up a bit more!
What would you do differently?:

less chit chat and get on bike faster.
Bike
  • 1h 34m 58s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 15.77 mile/hr
Comments:

was conservative on bike b/c not familiar with course and wanted to save my legs before run since i have never done olympic distance before. i probably should have stepped it up a little more.
What would you do differently?:

faster
Transition 2
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

again took my time in transition b/c just wanted to enjoy experience of first oly and not stress.
What would you do differently?:

could have gone faster through transition obviously
Run
  • 1h 01m 20s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

felt so much better on the run than i thought i would at this distance! lots of racer and volunteer support which was awesome. slight hills but not too bad.
What would you do differently?:

push harder on the run next time!
Post race
Warm down:

drank water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

inexperience with this distance and being too conservative

Event comments:

this is such a great race. i'm so glad i chose it for my first olympic! great people (volunteers and racers), beautiful setting and very well organized. it's a smaller sized race and has a local vibe. i just loved it, such a great experience!! i might have to do it again! :)

Sounds like you enjoyed the event. Swim was a nice pace. I understand the point of being conservative on the bike and run never have done the distance before. Something to look forward to next year and then you can really push and gain a ton of time.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

We will take a peek into the lowly saddlebag to see what needs to be in there in case of emergency. Much of this may be common sense, some might surprise you, and some are simply just my opinion.
