My second time, also preparing for IMFL. This is the best Tri I have ever done. It's a great time. Crowd support is unreal. I can not wait.

I was signed up for IM Chatt but IM has a new program that allows you to transfer to a different IM event. My heart/head was just not right for full IM training so I requested a transfer to this event. It looks pretty cool. Any infor on the race venue appreciated.

I'm excited about this race! I booked the hotel at the new holiday express :-)

I have heard this race is somewhat of a nightmare for spectators, any thoughts on this? My sister and husband are coming along for the ride

Happy training!

I'm staying at the Best Western. I live 2 hours away so I only booked 1 night, we just head home after the race.

I have very good perspective for spectating, I did the race in 2012, and my husband did it last year and I spectated. Spectators will be doing LOTS of walking. By the time my husband left T1 I had already walked 3 miles. Make sure your spectators wear shoes they can do a lot of walking in. On race morning we parked downtown so leaving after the race was over would be easier with all the closed roads. Only thing with that is, long walk to transition from downtown. After hubby set up transition we walked a mile to the swim start, since the swim is point to point. Once his swim wave started I walked the mile back to transition to see him head out on the bike course.

The run is where it is fun for spectators. You have several chances to see your people, and the streets are lined with cheering people. After the race its a bit of a challenge to go back down to transition to get your bike and gear but just be patient

I signed up for this as my first half!  Working on training so I can start my training plan in a few months, I'm way out of shape.

There are youtube videos of the entire course, they are a few years old but appear to still be accurate.  Here is a link to the first part of the bike course, you can get to the rest of them from there.

Has anyone found the local tri club course preview training schedule? I'd like to go done there and do at least the swim and bike legs beforehand.

Don't worry about the swim. You can lay on your back, float and still make the cutoff.

It looks like there are 3 waves for 35-39, 40-44 & 45-49 in the men's group. At least they let the older guys leave earlier. If I was going to do this race next year, I'd be leaving even earlier as I would move up to the 50-54 age group. But it looks like I'm going to do IMChatt next year. Using Augusta to prepare for IMFL this year. This is my 3rd time in Augusta. Good luck everyone.

I see those different numbers all the time and wonder the reason. If you don't know, then who does?

I was set to do this race next year, as I only did sprint races and wanted to try an Olympic first.

Now, I just got a spot on a relay for this year, so I will do the swim & bike legs!

Too bad they put the relays in the last wave though: I know in other races the they start in the middle of the pack...

What worries me is the swim as my longest race has been a Sprint with 750m swim, but I reckon the reports about the river current seem encouraging.

the swim with the current will make the swim seem like about 1200 meters. if in doubt float its not as crowded because there is a big area to swim in. just be careful to aim early for the exit as you do not want swim back at against the current
