  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

Cannot believe I swam so fast, I have been practicing a lot more from last year. I was in the front of a big group pretty much the whole swim. Drafter maybe 400 yds
What would you do differently?:

Practice more with wetsuit on, Shoulders still hurting after the swim when wearing wetsuit
Only got 2 -500 yd swims in with wetsuit
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Don't know why but I put my phone in Transition, so I knew it was going to rain, took swim cap off and put phone in it, then wrapped wetsuit around it. I had a heck of a time getting the sleeves off my arms. I tried pulling both sleeves off at the same time for some unknown reason. Definitly need to practice this. Took my time remembering to clip my helmet on and got shoes on and tightened.
Drank about 3 oz of Nuun in T1
What would you do differently?:

Practice taking wetsuit off
Get more practice in ows

Comments:

Drank 22oz of Nuun on bike
1 Boom Gel

What would you do differently?:

practice Swikeing more, Legs took 3-4 miles to get warmed up from the Swim.
Transition 2

Comments:

Decent, not my fastest, shoes seriously had 2 inches of water in them. Was pouring at this point. So I wasnt really rushing that much
What would you do differently?:

Not much, not Have my phone in Transition so I wouldnt worry about it
Run
  • 41m 58s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 06m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Cramped a lot, just labored my breathing and went away, but would come back.
1 boom gel
What would you do differently?:

NOt much, have no idea why I cramped
Post race
Warm down:

pretty much none, just walked around talking with friends

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The cramping on the run kept me from running faster

Event comments:

Gregg is really making this a great race. The pizza after is a great touch. Had a food cart/truck there too. The race ended up getting cancelled early because of the storm that came in. Pretty much all doing the HM didnt get to finish.

My splits got screwed up and my Transition times werent saved so all I have is overall time of 2:23:24

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).
