Overall Rank = 38/55
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 5/8
Event warmup:

Took a quick swim in the lake.
Swim
  • 10m 37s
  • 450 yards
  • 02m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was probably one of my best swims time wise. There is a considerable walk out of the lake to transition. I walked this portion. Could have cut 25 seconds had I run this part. My only complaint on the swim is that I zig zagged a bit. The water was perfect.
What would you do differently?:

I could use more swim lessons and time in the pool to improve efficiency.
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

4th in age group and 30th overall. No certainly could have cut 15 seconds by going faster.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much. I chose to be slower and more methodical.
Bike
  • 53m 14s
  • 17 miles
  • 19.16 mile/hr
Comments:

This was my first ever bike ride with an average over 19. It is a pretty fast course and I took advantage. I pushed harder on the hills knowing my run would be weak regardless of my bike effort. On the last climb on the frontage road along the interstate I maintained a 17 MPH pace which was great. It is also amazing how much faster I can ride during races...mainly because I am racing. I am always looking ahead to see who I can catch. And when I am passed I try to keep up as long as I can. This helps propel me to a better time.
What would you do differently?:

It was a career best ride. It was great and it was a lot of fun.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

I certainly could have pushed harder. I was 5th in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

I don't practice transitions. I could benefit from practice.
Run
  • 32m 4s
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 25s  min/km
Comments:

About what I expected. Despite the slow pace I felt pretty good. I ran the last mile in under 10 mins so it was a stronger finish. I grabbed a bit of water at each station.
What would you do differently?:

I need a lot more miles.

Training

Event comments:

A great race for me despite lack of consistent training. I beat my best time on this course by nearly 2 minutes. The weather was perfect for racing.

Soon after I got married, I decided I needed to get motivated to work out and focus on getting back into shape. I could barely jog a quarter-mile without needing a walk break.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

You can spend a small fortune on these pre-wrapped bundles of energy, thinking they offer magic ingredients-not true. “Energy” simply means “provides calories” and not “will make you feel energetic."
