Work paying for races?

 50  , South Carolina |  Subject: Work paying for races?Anyone have work paying for your races? Not as a sponsor but as a health and wellness incentive? Mine is stating they will pay up to 250 a year for any race that we do. There are certain requirements like no 24 hour bowl-a-rama but Tri's, running and biking are all covered. Didn't know if this was becoming the norm or not? |

No cool wellness deal like that where I work but we do participate in an annual Corporate Challenge Competion where the company pays a $1800 registration fee and there are events going on for two months. So I get a "free" sprint tri, Time trial, 5K, half marathon, swim meet and track meet every year. |

Member 1748 Exton, PA | Subject: RE: Work paying for races? We have a running club here, with that work will pay for the races the club is doing. Last year I ran in 2 of them, a 10 mile run and a 1/2 marathon. Maybe $100- $150 of value, better than paying for myself. |

We also get $400 for participating in our health screening ($200 at the time of the screen + $200 if/when you have 4 out of 5 areas in the "green"), so I suppose that could be applied to entry fees |

My employer pays half the entry fee for two of them and the 3rd is free, as its put on by the employer. I also get 16 hours of vacation time for participating in all 3. Don't understand why more employees don't take advantage of this. |

| 1300 | Subject: RE: Work paying for races? On a local level they will pay for some. They will generally enter a team representing the company. I did a local 10 miler and work got me in without entering a lottery or paying. That was pretty good. |

One of the activities that reduced my overall cost was running a race. If I remember correctly, my health insurance costs were reduced $100 per race, up to a maximum of five races. |

Over the last 10 years, they have gotten rid of the on-site gym, the subsidized membership at another gym that was supposed to make up for it, and stopped sponsoring the local tri club and company bike racing team. I would love it if they paid race entry fees, but I don't see that happening. |

My company does up to $200 a year as long as there is an approved charity involved and what I've done in the past is have them pay for the race then I donate the same amount to the charity, so I'm not necessarily saving but it's still cool. I don't do races with super high fees so that $200 can get me through a bunch of races every year. |

Don't understand why more employees don't take advantage of this. The 16 hours of vacation time is the best incentive I have seen. That is great. On top of that you are paying for 1 race & getting 3. I would love to have my employer offer vacation time as an incentive. My employer does not pay race entry fees, however we do get $200 annual toward fitness club/gym membership as long as you provide verification that you showed up at the gym 104x per year. |
