Hi,

Lifelong runner, 1 marathon completed. I just turned 50 years old and feel compelled to challenge myself to do something big. I just started riding indoors on a Peloton, 5x per week. I have always wanted to do tris. I am decent at two of the sports - running and cycling, but not so good and need a lot of help in swimming. I am hoping to do a half Ironman, and an olympic in late fall.

I live outside Philly, looking forward to training, meeting others and taking my fitness and goals to a new level.

Nick

Hi Nick, welcome to BT and triathlon! (I also came to tri via marathons first )

Some of our mentor groups are still open for new members; they're great for support and advice, including for best ways to work on your swimming. Links are at the top of this forum and the main Tri Talk one. All the best!

While running, I've been really struggling to keep my heart rate down in the zone 2-3 range as frequently prescribed in the plan. This seems too slow?

I had read the articles on BT, I'd trained, and I thought I had prepared. There were, however, a few things that I didn't internalize despite what I'd been told.
