Comments:

Was really surprised to get a new PR this year - didn't feel like I had it, esp. in the last 3 miles - not knowing the course added to the mental challenge and not knowing when to try and put the gas on for the final push.
took 3 gels evenly during course around each 3.5 miles
cadence avg around 176 - tad bit too low
Last year's 1/2 time (which was also a PR was 1:42;32) so 1:40 is within reach!
What would you do differently?:

get a preview of the entire run course, or at least the last few miles to know the twists and turns around the river, too fast on mile 9 which was :20 faster than average pace for race up to it - think this blew my pace in the final 3 miles.
Post race
Warm down:

lots of stretching, foam roller, massage!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Polar footpod not calibrated right - this made my pacing a total guess. Also think cadence was a tiny bit too low

Event comments:

Excellent venue - got to watch the 26.2 finisher sprint through the chute to make this home country Olympic Marathon team by 6 seconds! Truly inspiring end to the day - great event and will want to come back.
on 5/17 checked race results again and some had changed slightly - overall went from 240 of 2314 to 244 of 2560 (stayed at tope 10%), Masters went from 45 of 408 to 50 of 454 (still 11%), Males went from 171 of 876 to 175 of 922 (dropped from top 20% to 19%), and AG went from 13 of 106 to 13 of 108 (stayed at 12%)

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

Steady is our walk. Ignoring the pain that is radiating from my feet, I continue to place one foot in front of the other. Again I wonder, “Why am I doing this?”

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.

This program should be used for an athlete whose goal is to run a marathon in the 1:30-2:30 range and has a good running base in the past 8-12 weeks.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.
