Swim
Comments: Slower than I would have liked, but not horrible. When we made the first turn, the waves got really choppy because we were facing the wind, but thankfully that section of the course was really short. What would you do differently?: Maybe push it a little more, but not too much. Transition 1
Comments: I laid down for the wetsuit strippers, and I had no idea how sandy I would get. I also took some time to spray suntan lotion. What would you do differently?: Take my wetsuit off myself, so I wouldn't get sandy. Bike
Comments: The wind was just awful. It seemed like there were only a few times when we had it behind us. It was especially bad the last 8-10 miles. Coming down between all the hotels felt like we were in a wind tunnel. Transition 2
Comments: Took time again to get suntan lotion. Run
Comments: The run felt really good until just before halfway my right hip flexor started hurting. My avg pace through the first 11 miles was 8:38. For the remaining 15, it was 11:21 What would you do differently?: It was unfortunate my hip flexor started hurting, but I know I wasn't as prepared for the run as I wanted to be, since my knee bugging me in the spring delayed ramping up my run training. It was only by the grace of God I was able to get the amount of run training that I did. Post race
Warm down: Stood around celebrating with family. What limited your ability to perform faster: Wasn't as trained for the run as I wanted to be. Event comments: This was a really well run race, and the spectators on the run made it really fun. I didn't do as well as I wanted, but the atmosphere made it worth it. Had a cliff bar an hour before start.
Swung my arms to loosen up my shoulders before the swim.
