Swim
Comments: Had to pass way too many swimmers. I submitted a 2:05/100 meter seeding time and swam that. Had to navigate around about 12 folks, with 10-15 second staggered starts, this made things difficult. Swim seedings are always difficult but today seemed especially bad. Did not it let it affect me to much, just kept saying "control what you can". Felt pretty good coming out but definitely had done more sprinting than I am used to trying to get around folks. What would you do differently?: Not much, maybe seed a little higher? Don't think it would matter much as it seemed to be an issue from top to bottom today. Transition 1
Comments: Did not leave shoes clipped in this time, training for full so figure I am going to keep things the same. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Bike course had a ton of turns, missed one turn completely and had to circle the parking lot so probably lost about 15 seconds, but completely my fault. I did not preview the course as I arrived the morning of the race but honestly I may have ridden more conservatively as I pushed right into many corners and locked up the back tire twice. What would you do differently?: Not missed the one turn :) Transition 2
Comments: Not much here, just in and out What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Out and back run, started out a pretty good clip and about mile 1 really got into a good stride. All morning long I had passed people and not been passed so mentally was feeling pretty good. That was a function of swim seeding as much as anything else, but felt good. On the way back got caught by a road guard of a platoon going to the chow hall and had to come to a complete stop for about 30 seconds while they passed. Automatic disqualification if you break a formation. They said it hardly ever happens where it affects the run, but it did me. Maybe time to go buy a lotto ticket? What would you do differently?: Run faster as to maybe not get caught by the platoon :) Post race
Warm down: Walked around, had a bottle of water and another bar. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim limitations continue to plague me. Event comments: Setup does a great job everywhere I have been with them. I started racing their events years ago and the quality has remained. Looking forward to another race next month in North Carolina. Last updated: 2017-01-27 12:00 AM

Drove over late night before from Atlanta. Arrived at hotel in Hilton Head around 10:00pm. Checked over a few things and hit the hay. Woke up at 5:30 and have a cup of coffee and a Clif bar. Drove over the event, about 40 minutes away, and checked in at the guard house at the Marine Corps Depot. Found my way to the combat training pool for check in. Had to fill out some additional forms and got setup in transition. It has been a few years since I raced a Setup Events production, but they definitely are good at what they do. Everything was pretty smooth.
Not much other than got in line based on my swim seeding, did manage to get in the pool and swim about 100 meters. Felt pretty calm for first race of season and first race in about 3 years. Just kept to myself and watched other swimmers enter the pool. It was evident that people still struggle with self seeding on the swim :)
