Actually any of the three you mentioned would be good choices. Mahindra made the deere compact/utility tractors for a while, not sure if they still do. I would base my choice of those on price and dealer support/reputation.

Leaning to Kubota. Local dealer has what appear to be decent packages available. I say appear because I haven't been into the dealer yet to price out items individually. The implements might be low end stuff that will cost additional to replace when I break them! The guy we're buying from has a Mahindra that I tried to get with the property sale, but he had prior plans to sell. Hopefully I get to meet him tomorrow during inspections and get his opinion too.

There's always one 'extra helpful' post… thanks Dave. this did remind me that I need to go buy some kicker boots!

A year ago, I had the same decision and opted to buy the John Deere 1025 for my 7 acre parcel. I've been very happy with it. I use the front end loader a LOT. I use the tractor to mow, move snow, dirt, etc. Prior to buying, I went back and forth between the series and 2 series. I bought the 1 series but sometimes I wish I had bought the larger tractor. Very satisfied customer.

Mind me asking what that cost? What implements or options?

I think I'm going with the Kubota L3301 or 2501. Difference of 2500 for 8 more ponies. I'm thinking in a machine that size. that will actually be a pretty significant boost in capability. I drove a Mahindra last week. Much more power and a heavier tractor for the money, but the quality was not the same as the Kubotas. The front loader for example, was really tweaky and slammed around quite a bit. Plus the one I drove actually made a grinding sound when engaging the machine in gear to drive. The dealer said, "Oh, they all do that, just ease it a bit, try to get it rolling, then engage it fully." Meaning try to get it rolling while it was making the grinding noise, then slam it into gear! Both would likely serve me well, I just liked the Kubota more.

The Deere dealer... could not get anyone to help me. Someone had just delivered pizza as I walked in. A bunch of guys scurried out of cubicles, grabbed a slice and ran. All of them refusing to make eye contact. I think I'd already decided I wasn't buying one, so I just walked out and let them eat. This was after I walked around their lot for a good thirty minutes checking out the machines. Overall, I was not impressed with anything they had to sell. Lots of plastic. Entire rear fenders and hoods made of plastic. The bearings on the three point attach on every machine I looked at were sloppy, even though brand new. No doubt the Deere is still a great brand, it just wasn't for me.

Yes to the Kubota!!!!!! I got the L2501 with a front loader and rear shredder. Delivery is Monday and I'll post up a pic or two when I get time. Hoping it's enough power to get the job done. The dealer assured me it was. He said he'd more than happy to sell me a more expensive tractor if I insisted, but figured for my use it would more than enough machine.

Yeah, with those boots and maybe some overalls, a straw hat? I'm going to be the talk of the town.

The 524 and 525 are the loader model designation. I believe they are pretty much the same loader with the 525 being the newer model. The tractor model is on the hood.

She's actually a companion animal for our big horse. Apparently horses don't do well in a pasture by themselves. After some initial kicking, boundary and pecking order establishment, they became fast friends. She mirrored his movements, even going to the water bucket when he did. I had to laugh when the wife called them to the fence yesterday. They all the way in the back 40 and she tried to block him from getting to Momma first. She's running as fast as her little legs will carry her, zig zagging all the way. He finally had enough and zagged when she zigged, then hit full on thundering gallop to win the race. Pizzed off to get left behind, she was running and whinnying all the way to the fence line and Momma!

One of my cousins has a friend that has a camel. She is always going on about how sweet Clyde the camel is! I'm not a horse guy, but the little one is really growing on me. I went to the back fence line to pull a bunch of old barbed wire and fencing out that was left behind from a previous owner. It is really overgrown and rough terrain. That little girl was practically in my back pocket the whole morning inspecting things as I worked. Made me kind of nervous as I was working with the barbed wire because I was afraid she would get tangled in it. I hooked up 3 strands of about 60 yards each to the tractor. Soon as I fired up the tractor, she stood aside, waited until all was clear and then followed me all the way to house; running behind me at a safe distance whinnying all the way! She followed me back and forth all morning as I cleared bales of wire and scrap fencing.
