Ironman Racine 70.3
Swim cancelled due to lightning,
Bike shortened to 31 miles
Stressful day it sounds like!
Numbers way down also:
There are 1,689 entered for this year’s event — 545 fewer than last year and 981 fewer than the 2,670 who participated in 2014.
Wonder if it due to the weather being unpredictable or the poor bike course.
Subject:RE: Racine 70.3 - Partially cancelled - numbers down
Wow....that is extremely bad luck. I did this race twice in previous years on decent days (a bit hot, but that's expected for July). If I were a racer it would definitely be a big bummer.
Because of the 51-degree water – two degrees below the minimum standard for this event – the swim portion of the Ironman 70.3 Racine Triathlon was cancelled, forcing event officials to put the nearly 1,700 entrants on timed starts. And since Appleton and Lawrence specialize in setting themselves up for success with strong swimming legs, both knew their chances of winning could be undercut by the elimination of that segment.
