 I would be pissed if I got hurt but honestly the only way I see that happening is a fall on the bike which is probably just as likely as a road ride.  I feel fit enough.  The last sprint tri I did I went for a 50 mile bike the next day.  A little slow but good endurance.
 
 
Unless you are doing a hard group ride with inexperienced riders  (or you are inexperienced ), I would guess that your chance of crashing in a race is considerably higher than just riding on the road.  
  
Not that it should prevent you from racing, just something to keep in mind, especially for a low priority race.
