Hi Guys.

Would I be right in thinking that if I do an hour and 3/4 climb which is only 12 some kms long (Alpe Du Zwift) will it help me with my endurance as well as obviously helping my climbing? So in essence killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

Am i right in thinking that endurance isn't built by riding 50k it's built by riding for an hour and 3/4.

Cheers

Correct.  Your body feels time and effort, not distance.

What he said.

I wish you got extra credit for climbing on Zwift.  I think the "unlock features" are mileage based so 1.75 hours at the same effort on flat road (higher speeds) gets you more points/credits than 1.75 hours of climbing.  Other than that I like to see the different areas and I've made that climb before...it's a good workout.

Cheers guys. Just as I suspected.

Yeah, the Alpe is a good workout, especially when you are 100kg/220lbs

Depends on how long it takes to ride the 50k.

I program distance and time based workouts for my athletes. Sometimes I know if I program by distance, they will be out too long and it will cause more damage than help requiring substantial recovery time.

Moving past the hour timeline starts getting into endurance work. You can kill two birds with one stone by working in hills, threshold intervals or tempo sets, but keep in mind you will need to plan for more recovery than just riding Z2 for 1.5 hours.
