I program distance and time based workouts for my athletes. Sometimes I know if I program by distance, they will be out too long and it will cause more damage than help requiring substantial recovery time.
Moving past the hour timeline starts getting into endurance work. You can kill two birds with one stone by working in hills, threshold intervals or tempo sets, but keep in mind you will need to plan for more recovery than just riding Z2 for 1.5 hours. |
