Recovery day here. I had tons of lactate build up yesterday from Saturday's race and just the thought of anything intensy made me cringe. I could have done a recovery ride on the bike trainer but opted for the full day off. I have my last long (or at least the penultimate) Marathon Training run this week and want to go into it feeling strong. Steve, good luck at your race this week. I did the Ironman St George 70.3 in 2016 and we had temps in the low 50's with rain. The swim was fine because the water temps in the 60's. The bike was fine until we got to the 7-mile downhill section 47 miles into the bike ride. Going downhill I peaked at over 40 mph and that wind chill at that speed when you are wet made me freeze. I was in the tri suit with no additional layers. Once I was on the run I warmed back up but I was hypothermic before I started the run. I chill easily too. I did a warm-up swim before Saturday's race. It was low 60's and standing in the line at 1:45 min/100 spot waiting to get to the pool to start swimming I started to shiver. I don't have much of a Bioprene layer to keep me warm.
I get cold very easily, I am the dude wearing long sleeves and gloves, maybe a toque, for a 40* run.
LP has a long 6 mile down hill close to the start, following that it's lots of stuff to warm one up. Close to 4000' over 56 miles. I was given a suggestion to make arm warmers out of old socks and then wear gloves. The old socks can be disposed of along the way, alternate strategy is to wear my coldgear thermal layer under my bike top (which I like for the rear pockets ). Only issue with this is once it's on, it's on. |
