I don't know anyone who cares what Canada thinks. I truly don't mean that in a disrespectful way....I love Canada. But when it comes to politics and the U.S....I don't know a single person who cares what Canadians think about anything we do.

Trrue, then again, given how little some seem to care about how you get along within your borders, I wouldn't expect them to care about those outside.

There does seem to be lot of in-fighting right now in America but that is because we are going through a civil war - a political and cultural civil war. The next election will determine the trajectory of the country. If Trump wins the people will have decided for a new course. If he loses the country will have opted for a return to the socialist path Obama put us on. If the election were held today, with the economy booming and unemployment at a 50 year low, Trump will likely win. But much can happen in 11 months....

Some of it yes, but there are genuine, heart felt differences. Pro abortion people are just as adamant in their beliefs are are pro lifers. Many people earnestly believe “society” owes them free health care and free college. Some people believe applies to all speech not just speech we agree with. Some believe we have a right to not be offended by other people’s speech. Some people believe freedom of religion is a right while others believe that freedom ends when it conflicts with someone else’s beliefs.

I am conservative. I don’t know exactly WHY because my folks never talked politics when I was growing up. I don’t mean this as a slam on liberals but the only reason I can think of that I ended up conservative is my parents taught me personal responsibility and that I had no one to blame for my successes and failures but myself. My mom raised 4 small kids on welfare. It was embarrassing to get free lunch. I ate government cheese and canned meat. But I ashamed and knew we could do better.

Sorry, starting to ramble. Back on topic. Misinformation? Some would cite the climate change news that claims we have 11 years left and will end up eating out pets. Others claim BS. Biggest mis-information I can think of is Trump’s Charlottesville quote where he said there were good people on both sides. Second would be the Russian narrative which has been soundly debunked but the media is still pushing it.

And you think that is the President's fault? Asking a serious question.

No I don't think it's your president's fault.

He has been around for 2-3 years. This has much deeper roots than that.

I sincerely hope the divide we see is exaggerated.

If Trump is re-elected in 2020 and I think he will be, I hope he makes the legacy of his 2nd term to try and re-unite and not further divide.

I think what you see in the media is quote exaggerated.  Generally speaking it's the fringe whacko's that are out in the streets trying to cause trouble, but they're an extreme minority.  Sure, everyone has their opinions but most people are fairly respectful and agree to disagree on the things they don't agree on.

Another interesting thing about the US, is that we have essentially several countries within the country with very different value systems.  large cities, such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, etc are vastly different places than cities and communities in rural America.  Those of us in more rural communities tend to be more self sufficient and prefer the government stay out of our business, whereas those in very large cities appreciate and need a lot of government to keep the matrix running.  Neither are wrong, we're just very different.
Then you get into big national elections and you have a clash of cultures with big city values clashing with rural values and here we are.
