Subject: RE: Ironman Steelhead 70.3 : Official Thread I'm signed up. I have done this race I think 4 times and my first 70.3 back in 2009. The race is well organized and the course is pretty fast. Typically, the prevailing winds put the wind at your back for the final 9+ miles of the bike, which is nice. The run tends to be pretty hot and has two loops that include a fairly long hill (at least for this part of Michigan ). The swim is in Lake Michigan and is usually wetsuit legal. The swim I know has been cancelled a few times due to high waves/rip currents, but not any of the times I have done it. Parking is about a half mile south of Jean Klock park where the race is held. They have a shuttle, but I have just ridden my bike to the race site with my gear in a backpack. Lots of volunteers, especially through the Whirlpool campus. |
